Introduction
The environment we live in plays a major role either directly or indirectly towards a wide arrange of the characteristics we possess whether physical features, personal abilities, or our type of behaviors. This is on the basis that, human beings are constantly in contact with the environment we dwell in, and thus it is only inevitable that such contacts enable us to acquire different characteristics from the environment.
In this case, the environment represents a wide range of things we come into contact with in our day to day lives. This may vary from the natural and physical environment or the creation of nature and the social environment such as institutions; a good example of this being our own families, schools among others. Quite importantly, Myres (2009) reveals how the social environment forms part of the lifestyle which shapes behaviors and practices. This paper reveals how my currently deformed face has been acquired through the environment I have been interacting with over.
Description of my physical characteristics
Recently I was involved in combat which resulted in the deformation of my face due to various injuries I experienced. On the social front, the environment was responsible for my engagement in the events leading to my acquisition of this physical characteristic. The institution I work with as part of the social environment surrounding me was responsible for my acquisition of this characteristic. As an employee in the military, the social environment surrounding me is the armed forces as an institution.
It was due to my involvement with this situation that I was forced to engage in a combat situation to protect the natives of my country and being wounded and disfiguring my face in the process. The military here as a social environment was responsible for my acquisition of this characteristic (Myres, 2009).
Discussion of how my physical characteristics have been acquired through the environment
Additionally, it was because of the existence of a rampant and violent social environment in the form of the political instability in Afghanistan and the prevalent of terrorist and militia groups in this country that as members of the United States of America military we were forced to go for combat exercise in this country leading to my acquisition of this physical characteristic. Physically, the terrain and rugged environment in Afghanistan was responsible for my acquisition of the above mentioned physical characteristic. This is because while on a mission I was tripped by a protruding root and fall on a highly rough mountainous surface wounding and completely disfiguring my face (Myres, 2009).
Description of the methods which would be most appropriate to use when researching how the environment affects the behavior of the people
In the case of research to ascertain whether the environment affects physical characteristics in people, I would use the self-report as my form of research design or method in psychology research (Myres, 2009). This will involve seeking answers from participants in my study concerning how they feel the environment whether physical or social has played a role in the physical characteristics evident in their bodies.
This method will be useful in my study because it will allow me to collect a vast amount of data and to get first-hand information from the participants as to the specific environmental aspects in their lives and they have influenced which specific characteristics in their lives. In this regard, self-report methods of data collection will be used for the research. This will include written questionnaires and interviews in the form of forms submitted to the participants for filling and later collecting the filled forms for data analysis to find out how the environment has affected the physical features in peoples’ characteristics.
