Identification of research implementation issues

The authors consent to the fact that for academic research to be valid, the research should be relevant in tandem with the current environment. Relevance is primarily determined by the practicability of the academic research which the authors have found lacking in the academic management research in various fields including marketing, information, and management (Parcells, 2000). It has been established that through business schools perform exemplary well in the dissemination of knowledge and research methods, there has been a lesser amount of schooling into the practical application of knowledge (Hughes, et al, 2008).

Additionally, in order for research to be properly utilized into practical use, the research should be coherent and understandable to the practitioners. However, a converse view by practitioners is that research is unfathomable especially due to the substantial work that goes into the reporting on methodological features and hence difficult to understand (Rynes et al, 2007). For instance, the significance placed to tests the reliability and validity of instruments and the analysis modules places an intricate intend on the research and consequently makes the research disjointed to nonmembers on the academic field (Rosemann & Vessey, 2008). This perception is largely due to the fact that researchers by and large use technical research jargon which turns out to be too profound for practitioners or is misconstrued making the whole research unfeasible.

Assessment of research issues

In understanding the flaw that inhibits the links between academic research and practice, the authors have been able to systematically create means to better asses the problems that lead to the aforementioned paradox. Through analysis of the academic fields, the causes are easily identified by working longitudinally from the dissemination of knowledge to the application of the knowledge by practitioners (Rynes, et al, 2007). Research can be identified as an important linkage to the relevant use of the practice, but research in its presentation is in most cases too difficult to understand and it can be easily misinterpreted by practitioners. By identifying the problem, the causes can be easily identified through efficient analysis and an amicable solution can be arrived at (Simon, 1996).

In addition, the superior dissemination of theoretical knowledge compared to the diminutive application of knowledge reveals that there are imperfections in the academic system that need to be explored. Exploratory research is used to unearth the root cause of the minuscule academic research application rate not only in the academics and practitioners field but also in the individual, institutional and organizational levels (Hughes et al, 2008).

Causes of impractical research

A number of causes that have led to the subsequent misapplication of academic research have been identified. However, there are three causes that stand out which can be attributed to the occurrence of the other causes of low academic research application. The first cause is the inconsistent exchange of knowledge between academics and practitioners. It has been recognized that there are no outstanding models of the proper collection and dissemination of research between academics and practitioners (Hughes, et al, 2008). Furthermore, there is a misconception regarding research in terms of academic quality and practical relevance. The general perception is that research is usually misconstrued due to the fact that it is rigged with terminology and impractical methodology (Rynes, et al, 2007).

Academics, however, argue that for their research to possess academic rigor such material is indeed necessary and should be included (Simon, 1996). The final cause is the accessibility of the research material, which has been said to be obsolete due to the fact that the proposed models given in the research are not concurrent with the actual situation in the field (Rosemann & Vessey, 2008).

Solutions to impractical research

Two potent solutions have been identified that could invariably end the research application quagmire that is being experienced. The first solution is the introduction of applicability checks on the research process by critically analyzing the objectives of the research. The applicability checks will be placed prior and during the research process and they will essentially function as veto points (Rosemann & Vessey, 2008).

Researchers will be required to reflect on the objectives of their research in a practical manner and constantly be in tandem with the current conditions of the field. This essentially means that researchers will need to be in constant communication with practitioners through various stages of their research in order to determine the practical implications of their findings (Parcells, 2000). If this is the case, the researchers will have control over this research model for they will be responsible for investigating the applicability of their research and the relevance of the research by procuring input from practitioners.

The second solution is the use of academic consultancy which is also potent in yielding positive results as far a research application is concerned. Academic consultants are basically centers of knowledge where academic research is conducted and gathered in a centralized position (Hughes, et al, 2008). Practitioners will be required to access simplified yet practical research through this medium.

In this case, academic consultants will have primary responsibility for carrying out and constantly updating their research on a regular basis. Practitioners, on the other hand, may be required to pay for the information they receive but more importantly, the information should be relevant and practical. Academic consultants will also be required to have broad sources of information and not to limit the substance in their research in order to give practitioners a clear perspective of the research.

Conclusion

This information has provided valuable and practical knowledge pertaining to my doctrine and future aspirations. I have been able to understand that the importance of research is in its relevance and practical application and not so much on its technicality. It is therefore imperative to come up with research that is easily understood and helpful to practitioners working in the field. Furthermore, the causes that have led to the creation of inapplicable research have been helpful, because by identifying these causes I will be able to avoid them during the course of my study and during my career in the future.

I have also acquired helpful knowledge pertaining to the sources of relevant research I should know about and the solutions provided have given me a good starting point in information acquisition. In accordance with my aspirations, I have learned that it is important to gather research that is current and up-to-date. For a business to thrive, such research is indeed necessary in order to stay ahead of the competition.

For this to happen it is important to access more information and study that information in a chronological order to determine its practicality. Finally, I have learned that it is essential for researchers and practitioners to work together in the dissemination of information. Researchers need information from practitioners to better understand the current events on the ground, and practitioners need researchers for their insightful work.
