Importance of Leisure
Leisure is highly important for people’s emotional well-being due to the opportunity to replenish their energy. The concept of leisure is complex when viewed from a healthcare perspective, and it includes six crucial components (Hash, Jurkowski, & Krout, 2015). The specified distinction is critical to make since it allows one to create a leisure setting, in which one can recover their energy and rest. However, the mentioning of adult patients being aware of the concept of leisure allows one to build an effective framework for addressing health issues in older adults.
Educating Aging Patients
The focus on patient education may become quite a challenge for nurses tending to the needs of older patients, mostly due to the lack of awareness and general knowledge about critical health-related concepts in patients. The process of educating aging patients is also complicated by the deterioration of their health, which, in some cases, includes certain mental issues, such as memory loss, difficulties in understanding complex concepts, and the associated issues. Therefore, seeking the ways of encouraging education of elderly patients should be seen as one of the main priorities in healthcare.
Daily Activities
As a nurse, one can teach aging people about the significance of leisure with the help of daily activities. As Guilleminault, Rolland, and Didier (2018) mention, patients’ perceptiveness of critical health management skills increases in the specified circumstances. Thus, opportunities for maintaining well-being among aging patients will increase. Indeed, by creating the setting that patients will deem as comfortable and in which they will be inclined to learn, one will reinforce the significance of leisure and introduce tools for managing the balance between activity and leisure in elderly patients.
