Banning handgun sales and gun violence prevention are often considered as one of the most controversial issues in the field of media representation and public debates in the USA. The article entitled “Public Continues to Oppose Banning Handgun Sales” discusses various problems such as gun violence, the role of education, race, and the role of political affiliation in the process of banning handgun sales. Handguns are a nonspecific class of weapons to be different from long guns and revolvers. Studies and researches have documented that thousands of crimes were committed with handguns in the United States. Women and children face severe problems through the abuse of handguns. Police and other welfare agencies have documented the fact that handgun usage among school children contributes to severe discipline problems and violence in schools. Adults living in homes with handguns create the risk of homicide and suicide than others. Most of these cases were justified in the name of self-defense. The most important fact is that there are no specific Federal or State laws against handgun sales. Studies have shown that racial and political influence is visible in the formation of people’s attitudes towards the use and the banning of handgun sales. Political affiliation is essential for the making and execution of policies against handgun sales. Previous studies and newspapers have often mentioned the fact that different factors such as social, educational, racial, and political affect the process of banning handgun sales in the United States.

The higher the education level; the higher is the support of people to handgun sales

In the age of globalization and cultural degeneration, youngsters have engaged in different brutalities. The new generation has grown up enclosed by gun violence and other risk factors. Gun has badly influenced teenagers’ life and it has played a vital role in shaping the behaviors of many youths. This reason for gradual gun violence placed as a part of adolescent’s life in schools and homes. Many school students are interested in using this type of weapon. Family income and race are significantly related to teenagers’ gun use. Studies have mentioned the fact that a large number of youths in the higher education field have used revolvers in their lives. Here, one can support the hypothesis that education affects people’s attitude to support handgun sales. Teens have often shown their readiness to carry handguns because guns are easy to carry a weapon and it is very essential for everyday life. And they also point out that it is a suitable weapon for self-protection and existence in the world.

It is crystal clear that people who have higher education especially adolescents show their positive attitude to promote handgun sales in the United States.

The educator’s alcohol use, drug use, smoking, etc are the main factors associated with the gun-carrying of adolescence. Educated people argue that carrying a handgun is a part of their self-protection and are very likely to practice handguns, so these students are living in residence with a revolver.

Rules related to handgun sales are different from state to state in the United States. Around forty-four states have their own rules and regulations concerned with this issue. More than half of the US citizens are opposing the banning of handgun sales according to as gun ownership is valuable for them. “Most Americans continue to say that in general it is more important to control gun ownership than to protect the rights of gun owners.” (Public continues to oppose banning handgun sales, 2008, p.2). They think it is not a matter of the gun manufacturers only. Moreover, the public is important because of the security of all individuals.

Various factors are there behind the supporters of the handgun sale like the education and race level attitudes that are playing a vital role in this matter. Racial differences are there in handgun ownership and handgun sales and the proportion of the firearm owners of the white people is more than that of the others. The journal article entitled Gun Control Splits America comments that; “A statistical data in 2010 say that fifty-three percentage of white men support to protect gun rights at the same time the only twenty-seven percentage of blacks support this right to firearm ownership. About one-third whites are supporting to control gun ownership then two-third black people are the supporters of the control over the firearm ownership.” (Gun control splits America, 2010).

The white people aim to secure their rights and liberty through handgun ownership. Their consciousness about security is the reason for the increased proportion of handgun ownership and handgun purchase. Three fourth of the Republican Party followers oppose the banning of this sale. The Republicans are generally white people and are educationally forward than the Afro-Americans.

The broad mindedness acquired through education is not for the arm control but it is used to the protection of ownership of gun. Higher education has no strong influence against the handgun sales; moreover it is a supporting aspect towards this business. The murder rate with guns in the United States is higher than other developed nations. From Abraham Lincoln to John F Kennedy four US presidents was assassinated by the gun shot and many school students were murdered in the shooting of the killers. Here, qualitative educational tradition of the country is not a restriction before the hand or other types of gun sales. Further, higher educated people are more interested to the purchase of the guns. It exposes that the higher education is a supporting factor for the handgun sales. Mike Powers argue that; ‘‘to disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.’’ (Powers, 2003, para.1).

This is the example of the attitudes of educated citizens in the United States as the sale of handgun is the matter of individual liberty and security also.

In the United States of America death from the injury of gun shooting is a serious problem. General higher education is a failure according to the settlement of the gun control and violence. So, there is a need for special education in the ground of responsible ownership of the guns. Here, parents and guardians have an important role because of children’s abuse the firearms in their own houses, educational institutions and neighboring places.

Higher education has no influence on people’s attitude toward handgun sales

Surveys and studies have mentioned that educators; especially youths have kept a positive attitude towards handgun sales. Analyzing various studies researcher can understand the fact that higher education and race influence people’s handgun usage. It is crystal clear that one can show his/her disagreement against the statement that higher education and race has no influence on people’s attitude toward handgun sales. White people have often showed their support towards handgun sales than the African –Americans. The study entitled High School Students’ Attitudes about Firearms Policies documented that; “The majority (80.6%) of students believe that the United States Constitution guarantees individual citizens the right to own firearms, yet over half (55.3%) believe that laws regulating gun sales and use are not in violation of a person’s constitutional rights.” (Vittes, Sorenson & Gilbert, 2003, p.10). Analyzing the statement, one can find the fact that higher education places a significant role in people’s use of handguns.

Most of the population in America has a conviction that metropolis do not possess the liberty to prohibit the possession of guns. The political move toward the regulation of handguns is concerned with matters of laws and political issues that encircle the dispute. The confidence that a house is better protected if there is handgun was coupled with the reason of belonging to the Republican Party. The Republican Party have been from before itself in support of handguns mainly because of their conventional nature and also powerful support by the National Rifle Association which is one of the influential power in this area and this association has supported the Republicans in the elections in order to get their support for this cause.

The Amendment two of the Constitution of United is in favor a person’s liberty to posses a handgun which has been encouraged by the Republican Party. It has been held by the party that individuals all over the nation have to be given the liberty to posses handguns in their houses for private defense. The party has also approved the persons who tried to prevent unnecessary suits against handgun producers and hold that it is a deprivation of the constitutional rights of the individuals in the State. It is also against central certifying of handgun owners who are law abiding citizens and also State handgun registration and it has been argued that it causes unnecessary interference on the privacy rights of the people. The party has been supporting for the constitutional liberty to posses handguns. The argument they place in order to support this conviction is that the securing of private defense of the people to hold self defense is impossible without the quick availability of a handgun. Because of this attitude of the Republican Party, the party has many times lost the confidence and trust of the people who belong to the middle class since they find this argument of no value.

The fiscal condition created by this administration is useless for the people belonging to the lower income group. In the present days, many citizens are of the view that the Republican Party people are not only the supporters of the Amendment two of the United States Constitution but are also supporters of huge industries.

Compared to the supporters of the Republican Party, the Democratic Party people are making greater efforts to see to it that the number of crimes in the community is controlled by placing restrictions on the sale of handguns and they are in the move towards creating proposals in order to restrict the sale of handguns within the nation. Many proposals have been already created by the Democratic Party which has been supported by many citizens who accept the arguments of the party with respect to banning handgun sales.

The people of the Democratic Party also propose for stricter laws and policies against the manufacturers and owners of handguns. The drafter’s law makers in the United States had a better foresight that the ruling party, whatever attitude they posses would take away the liberty to posses handguns from the citizens and therefore they included the liberty off private defense in the constitution by the Amendment two of the constitution as a solution for this. But the Democratic Party people are against the prevailing laws which support handgun possession. They are of the view that if there are no proper laws to restrict the manufacturer and possession of handguns, it may lead to destroying the peace within the nation and there is a greater possibility for increase in the number of crimes within the State. This attitude of the Democratic Party has also to a certain extent brought up the faith and confidence of the people in the party.

The proposals made by the State to bring laws which restrict the sale of handguns have always been welcomed by the Democratic Party even though they face opposition from the Republican Party members and the manufacturers in this area. The party is making several efforts to restrict the citizens to purchase handguns. Since handgun purchasing has been increasing to an uncontrollable level, the democrats believe that it has become the need of the hour to control handgun sales within the State. They also support the private checking of handgun sales. People always have a faith that if the Democratic Party wins the election, it shall be seen to it by the party that there are checking mechanisms on sale of handguns. But the large industries in this field face tension that there is a possibility that their business may collapse.

Political affiliation influence people’s attitude toward banning handgun sales

Most of the population in America has a conviction that metropolis do not possess the liberty to prohibit the possession of guns. The political move toward the regulation of handguns is concerned with matters of laws and political issues that encircle the dispute. The confidence that a house is better protected if there is handgun was coupled with the reason of belonging to the Republican Party. Because of this attitude of the Republican Party the party has many times lost the confidence and trust of the people who belong to the middle class since they find this argument of no value.

Hal Herring comments that;” The U.S. is facing a host of challenges, most of them brought on by the antics of a Republican administration that governed as a team of mendacious plunderers, with no regard for the future, or even for the beliefs that their own party once espoused. The Constitution — the very document that guarantees the right to keep and bear arms — has been treated with scorn.” (Herring, 2008, para.2). The fiscal condition created by this administration is useless for the people belonging to the lower income group. In the present days, many citizens are of the view that the Republican Party people are not only supporters of the Amendment two of the United States Constitution but are also supporters of huge industries.

People always have a faith that if the Democratic Party wins the election, it shall be seen to it by the party that there are checking mechanisms on sale of handguns. But, the large industries in this field face a problem that there is a possibility for their business may collapse. “Slipping below the radar (or under the short-term memory cap), the Democrats have already leaked a gun-ban list, even under the Bush administration when they knew full well it had no chance of passage (HR 1022, 110th Congress). It serves as a framework for the new list the Brady’s plan to introduce shortly.” (Korwin, 2009, para.3). The people affiliated to the Democratic Party are behind the courts, legislations and creating other checking mechanisms in order to regulate sale of handguns.

Discussion and findings

The article entitled Public Continues to Oppose Banning Handgun Sales permits the researcher to discuss about various issues such as banning of handgun sales, influence of education and race in people’s attitude towards handgun sales, and the role of political affiliations in the process of banning handgun sales in the United States. Previous studies and researches show that education and race play a vital role in handgun usage and sales. Educated White people support handgun sales and usage and they argue that handgun usage is a part of their self protection. Surveys show that there is 30 percent of Americans practices handgun as their personal needs (See figure-1). Another important finding is that African American shows the tendency to do gun crimes than White people. Educated people In America justify their gun use as a social status. Therefore, one can reach the conclusion that education and race influence people’s attitudes towards handgun sales. Existing social and educational system demands the call for particular awareness through the education among the public. The existing higher education is an encouraging reason which helps to increase the support against the banning.

Analyzing previous studies and researches, one can see that the topic banning handgun sales require the affiliation of political parties. Exponents of the Republican party have followed a negative stand towards the policy of banning handgun sales. Compared to the supporters of the Republican Party, the Democratic Party people are making greater efforts to see to it that the number of crimes in the community is controlled by placing restrictions on the sale of handguns and they are in the move towards creating proposals in order to restrict the sale of handguns within the nation. Many proposals have been already created by the Democratic Party which has been supported by many citizens who accept the arguments of the party with respect to banning handgun sales

But, the Democratic Party people are against the prevailing laws which support handgun possession.
