Introduction

Breakfast is one of the requirements for healthy living and a good start for a person. Individuals require energy for use in various activities and it is through breakfast, this can be achieved. I chose to work on this question because it directly affects students’ behavior, performance, and future ambitions and targets. If a student does not have breakfast, does his or her performance get affected or will it not be affected.

There is a relationship between students taking breakfast on student’s performance. When a student takes breakfast his concentration, comprehension, energy increase, or fatigue reduces and grades improve and he is able to learn how to solve his own problems with ease, learns to be independent and all these will enable the performance to change for the better. The answers to this question will enhance my professional knowledge and competence in many ways. As a professional, I will encourage students to take breakfast to enable them to improve their creativity, concentration, comprehension, increase their energy, and improves college grades.

Performance for the students has been recorded and analyzed. This performance has been based on concentration, comprehension, energy requirement, and grades obtained. The results obtained in this analysis were majorly based on the responses from the 45 students of various demographics. You cannot have a direct relationship between the performance and the breakfast taken in the morning. Normally breakfast is consumed because it is a basic need for human beings.

There is always a discrepancy in the data collected because the data obtained depends on the perception, attitudes, and feelings of the interviewees. There was not enough time to carry out the measurement to obtain actual data that can be relied on reasonably apart from information obtained from interviews. This information has been subjected to statistical data using SSP 10.0 and has given a result that is being relied upon in this statistic.

Objectives of the study

  1. To find out whether students who do not have breakfast are more likely to do poorly in school more than those who take breakfast.
  2. To assess the impact of breakfast on comprehension, concentration, fatigue, and failing grades.
  3. To come up with recommendations on what can be done to improve performance and breakfast availability.

Hypothesis

Not having breakfast affects a child’s grades in school.

Scope

45 students were considered in this result, 40 females and 5 males. These people voluntarily participated in this study on the breakfast and performance under various variables as shown by the step statistical report. This was done in a school setting and all were students. All the data was estimated to the nearest 2 decimal points. For concentration, comprehension, lack of energy or fatigue, and failing grades the students were put in observation of the class, then they were subjected to complex mathematics formulas to produce accurate results. Performance analysis was carried out for all the numbers in the class. It was processed using nonparametric tests to give the outcome of the result that was required

Literature

Relationship between Meals and Development

Phillips G.W. (2005 pp.2) found out that there is a link between breakfast and students’ performance. In the research, he discovered that students who missed breakfast got poor grades. The concentration span of students is hindered due to a lack of energy in the body or due to fatigue. At the same, a student with a lack of concentration has difficulties in comprehending issues being taught by the teacher. The cognitive development of children is also affected proper nutrition intake is not considered.

Methods

Sources of Data

The data that will be used in this research will be collected from

  • Books and government sources:- Most of the materials to be used in this research paper was collected from books. Many books have been written covering issues of students. I collected the relevant material from books that show the relationship between students taking breakfast on performance. Books will offer me good general information that will assist me to complete this project. Most books have a bibliography in the back where more information about the effect of breakfast on performance will be obtained.
  • Internet:-The internet is also a very good source of data. On the internet, different topics have been covered. Through the internet, I will collect the relevant materials that show the relationship between students taking breakfast on student’s performance. Through the internet, I will be able to get the latest journals and conference papers that cover my topic in greater depths. Through the internet, I will be able also to request more materials in the form of CDs for further reference. For further reference, I will use the internet facilities in offloading more relevant literature from the digital library.

Data Collection Tools and Methods

The relevant data to be used in this research was collected in two ways namely:- Questionnaires-The data that will be used in this research paper was collected through questionnaires. A questionnaire involves asking various questions from the students and teachers concerning the topic. This was used to obtain important information about the relationship between students taking breakfast on student’s performance. This research employed two categories of questionnaires.

The first category of questionnaires was structured or close-ended. Here I offered a list of all possible alternatives from which respondent best describes the situation. They were in form of multiple choices. A question was asked and below it, there was a list of all possible alternatives that will be provided. The advantage of using questionnaires is that most people do not want to think hard, the answers are there and the respondent cannot be intimidated. An unstructured or open-ended type of questionnaires was also employed to make this research a success. These types of questions gave the respondent freedom of response and permit an individual to respond in his or her own words.

Statistical Analysis

The data has been analyzed using SSP version 10.0 for personal Computers there were testing of data for normality using statistical tests, quantitative and qualitative variables were also used. They were not paired in terms of details but differences in means standard deviation have been subjected to the confidence level. The limits of agreement defined were plus 1-1. The accuracy of the information was defined in terms of percentages and was within Plus -5% all other estimations were considered for their deviations to determine the variance. The accuracy of the results obtained was also subjected to statistical analysis using the error report to determine the amount of error that was made from the result.

Results and Discussion

The result has been obtained and analyzed from the data of 45 students of a class. The graphs from SSP attached have all the results. The standard deviation, mean, and significance which are measured at 5% are represented in the tables attached.

The difference between the standard deviation of performance was expressed and the error between the variables was also not in agreement. The predicted outcome of data collection and implication will be as follows:-

  • A direct relationship exists between students taking breakfast on performance because a student who is hungry will have a low concentration span, comprehension, will have fatigue, and eventually failing grades.
  • Breakfast is meant to energize and helps the student improve his/her standard in the class.
  • Students who lacked breakfast performed poorly and the majority of them failed to turn out in school.
  • Students who lacked breakfast lacked concentration and were always angry.
  • Students who lacked breakfast was difficulty in comprehend basic principles.

In chart1 level 3 means high, level 2-moderate, and level 1-low.

In the class 21 students were highly fatigued, 20 moderately fatigued, and 7 lowly fatigued. While those with high concentration problems were 24, 17 were moderate, and 7 had low concentration problems. In the class, 25 students were having highly failing grades, 16 moderately and 7 low. While those with high comprehension problems were 21, 15 were moderate and 12 low concentration problems

Discussion

This research paper on breakfast effect on Students’ performance of a class has been analyzed and compared on the basis of 4 different variables. The results show that there is no accuracy in the findings and the difference is large. The findings of this research are most important although it does not give a proper and accurate estimate of effect. The differences between breakfast and performance are not only a limitation to the study but as a stumbling block to the use of statistical equations in analyzing the results. This is because of the people who were used with different characteristics meaning they produce a measurement error.

The study was biased as to the sources of the subjects under study were carried from one class and they had their own opinions as relates to the study. It is not a function or a true representative of the whole school, some students may have given the wrong result to create an impression, and this affected the accuracy of the results obtained. From the tests carried out one can deduce that there was poor performance in the statistical data collection. The method that was employed in this analysis was inadequate to give accurate results. This is why there were many limitations to the study since accurate results cannot be obtained from interviews and observation. The subjects will tend to influence the results and produce a better result which is not the case on the grounds.

Recommendation and Conclusion

There is needed to make an effort to carry out results in the future in school using adequate statistical methodologies to obtain a good result on the effect of not taking breakfast. This is because a great deviancy shows that the result was not adequate and it needs further research in the school to determine how the students are affected by not taking breakfast among the students. Proper formulas should be used in order to incorporate all variables such as concentration, comprehension, fatigue, and failing grades to enable one to come up with proper statistical data.
