The firm wants to train analysts to prepare itself for future changes in the financial industry and select a workforce to assist the existing force in executing jobs. As the firm embarks on the development of the new product to suit its clients, the program is aimed at “attracting, developing and keeping a pool of talented future leaders who can manage these products” (Lehman brothers). The firm has numerous divisions which offer different services to its clients. The firm is in the process of acquiring the best workforce to assist the team in this division in “delivering the best solution to its clients” (Lehman brothers). Training will continue for two years to ensure one develops to full potential and fulfill his careers ambitions. One would be prepared to cope with diverse challenges and various experiences of the “corporate environment that thrives in innovation and diverse cultures” (Lehman brothers).

The program will be facilitated by managers who will be assigned to each analyst under the program. The manager will shed light on the analysts under incubation on the rotation and group placement process. He will also evaluate the analysts’ progress in career development and advancement. The rotation and placement process will see analysts hired and given the mandate to head a position in a certain group upon completion of the training program. These areas include; finance, operations, risk management, executive administration, advisory, and business information service.

The qualified analyst will undergo an induction program, participating in seminars before being given any of the groups to head. Then he would go through a rotation process whereby: in three to eight months, one would have participated and explored all the groups. By the end of the eight months, the analyst will have familiarized with the different roles and functions of each group. Placement to various groups will be done after one has successfully completed training and will be done according to the analyst’s wish, i.e., where he prefers and according to the needs of each group.

A review process will be carried out on the analyst’s performance to understand areas that require development and appreciate one’s achievement. The review process will provide an opportunity for the analyst to “preset his self-assessment and goals for the next six months” (Lehman brothers). The reporting manager will provide feedback and advice accordingly on the next step to be followed. If one completes the program with success, he is expected to move to the next level, and the best performers will be promoted to high positions.

Lemma’s brother group allows for mobility across regions. There is room for employees to change the geographical region of work. Analysts will be given mentors to help them run the firm, give advice and help one fulfill career dreams and goals. Training and development of employees are much considered in Lehman brothers. Planning and recruitment are key duties of whoever is concerned with human resource management. Personnel is the driving force of any business organization, and for a firm to show good financial reports, it must have the best personnel. The competitiveness and future of a firm are determined by the quality of its employees. Planning involves determining the number of employees the firm requires to satisfying the needs of its clients. The management team first finds out whether there is a need to have additional staff, identifies the task, and specifies the requirements of the job.

On the other hand recruiting involves attracting, examining, choosing, and contracting people to execute the job. For the firm to get the best out of the best, it should carry out a thorough recruitment drive. Recruitment starts from interviews, both oral and written to a training program before starting the job. The business working environments and job skill requirements are changing hence the need to get a dynamic workforce which can cause coup with these changes. Much effort is required in recruitment to get the right person for the job to promote competitiveness.

A firm requires people who can understand its clients’ needs and the market where the firm is operating. It’s the wish and hope of the management team that the firm will continue to operate indefinitely, and in the process, revenue generation will increase as well as its competitive advantage. Only this dream will be realized if the firm has the right people to carry out the work required by the firm. Upon selection of the right persons, then they should be familiarized with the firm’s technologies, working processes, and operations. This places the new recruits in a better position to execute their duties as expected from them. The business operating environment is dynamic: there are new technologies, increased competition, and an increasing need to develop new products for the clients hence the need for continuous training.

Workers should be trained on how to work as a team to achieve organizational goals and missions. Most firm’s activities are interrelated and hence the need for teamwork for effective coordination of different processes. Failure to get the right people to undertake the activities required by the business may plunge the firm into difficulties or even collapse. Therefore it’s the duty of human resource managers to follow the right process to acquire the right people for the job.

In conclusion, a firm’s existence and growth are directly proportional to the efficiency and competence of the people who have the mandate to run it. Getting the right employees has been proven to be a challenging task for human relations professionals. Therefore, the person in charge of selecting the workforce of any firm must have knowledge on activity to undertaken and try to his level best to get the right people who qualify for the position. There is a need for continuous development of employees to cope with changing business environment if the firm is to stay “alive” and sound. In my view, the Lehman brother’s move is a better step towards getting the best employees. The move is encouraging, and if undertaken without shortcomings, then the firm will be in a position to remain sound.
