Introduction

When different cultures from all over the world speak different languages in a specific country or region, this is what we call culture diversity. There is a general agreement among anthropologists that the first mankind came from Africa many years ago. Since then mankind have been spreading successfully throughout the universe. Accustomed themselves to many conditions and changes. The culture differences in the world vary from things such as language, dressing and traditions. The way society behaves in a specific place is different from another place. “It can be argued that cultural diversity may be vital for the long-term survival of humanity; and that the conservation of may be as important to humankind as the conservation of species and is to life in general” this position was taken by UNESCO in 2001 and was assert in the “Article 1 of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity” (UNESCO World Report 52).

Culture Diversity on society

With people migrating from one continent to another, new immigrants are being integrated into the country’s culture. The advantage of this is that it brings; language, new ways of thinking, creative solutions to difficult problems and negotiating skills. Thus making a country rich. We see the world is becoming smaller and smaller with the introduction of technology.A person from Nairobi, Kenya will be able to communicate with his counterpart in Washington, US at a glance (UNESCO World Report 108). Ethnographers used to refer U.S as a “melting pot” where people from other countries would be fully integrated into American social culture. This makes America an interesting place to live for people from different backgrounds. Imagine how boring it could be if there was no Chinese or African food in the U.S. But cultural diversity has its negative side. Things like illegal immigrants, prostitution, human trafficking and racial abuses because some certain culture will think they are more superior that the other. But with all these it makes the U.S a much more interesting place to live in (Somwell tsowell.com).

Culture Diversity on Economy

The integration of trade, investments, and migration as a result of culture diversity has made some tremendous economic growth in some nations. History has it that at one time Austria used to be a desert but with cultural diversity as a result of immigrants from other countries, today Austria is the leading in Economic growth. This is as a result of people bringing ideas and capital which is used to generate more wealth. But the negative effect of cultural diversity in the society, the opportunity in rich countries drives manpower away from poor countries in the world. “Brain drain has cost the African continent over $4.1 billion in the employment of 150,000 expatriate professionals annually Indian students going abroad for their higher studies costs India a foreign exchange outflow of $10 billion annually” (UNESCO World Report 99).

There is a problem of illegal trade in counterfeit products as a result of diversity in culture. It is estimated a revenue loss of $200-$300 billion for African companies as a result of counterfeit goods from Asian countries and a few countries in Europe. “According to Interpol, trade in counterfeits worldwide grew eight times the speed of legitimate trade in the 1990s. In China, $16 billion of counterfeit goods are sold every year. In a globalized world where criminals are networked to take advantage of the global economy brought about by culture diversity, efforts to combat piracy must be global as well (Stenou 56).”

Cultural Diversity in the Military

With modern and advanced technology in the world, the military operates in a diverse environment with a multicultural population. Nowadays it is normal for the army of another country to recruit servicemen and women from another country, a good example is the US army which in their army there are different people from all walks of life serving in various ranks in the Army forces. As we know United Nations is a body without a force, but they maintain peace from different places in the world by recruiting forces from it member countries (Stenou 45).During the war in Kosovo in the earlier 90’s we saw forces from countries like Kenya they offered to maintained law and order for a period of time. With these interactions there is exchange of ideas among the service men and women serving in those forces.

Cultural Diversity and Leadership

In this era of global warming, we see cooperation among the world leaders. We are seeing leaders from all the countries in the seven continents coming together to try and solve the impact of global warming (Winslow 66). Few months ago, the world experienced a devastating earthquake in Haiti, many lives were lost as a result of that. But Irrespective of race, colour and religions background, leaders throughout the world tried their level best to try to save the situation in Haiti, by donating medical personnel in treatment of the wounded and sick, food and shelter and lastly donations in form of grants to rebuild their destroyed nation. Many concerts have been held in the world by other leaders to eradicate things like poverty, lack of clean drinking water and diseases. Celebrities are coming together to fight this vices. Leadership is required in all these initiatives if we are to eradicate poverty from our mists.

Conclusion

Many books and journals have been written on culture diversity, their values and ethics.. “A fish is always the last to find out it is swimming in water”. Culture diversity among nations has given us the opportunity to see other people culture; their difference and to share in them. We will all agree that with diversity in culture. In workplace culture diversity utilizes the country’s skills to its maximum. This will in turn contribute to the overall prosperity of a nation. Lastly “A fish only discovers its needs for water when it is no longer in it”. Culture diversity is like water for people to discover (Winslow 102).It will be difficult in this day and age for countries to try and keep their culture intacs. We always hear of human persecution in other part of the world because they don’t subscribe to the country’s religion. Diversity within the human race should be embraced by all as we did not choose where to be born and thus we should tolerate the views of each and every human being.Just because we are not from the same background, does not mean that we should despise one another as I believe that everyone can contribute something that will contribute immensely towards our stay here on earth.
