“I’ll make me a world” is a movie that tries to reconstruct new ways of art by describing African-American artists that helped shape the twentieth-century cultural world; through music and writing among other art. They achieved this through strives to become creative citizens thus heritage that identifies Americans. These arts are characterized by dressing; talking and language use; walking styles, and music listened to. The movie covers the areas of arts emphasizing the development of the Black Arts Movement after 1964. (Robertson & Craig 4-15)
Entertainment constitutes the passive activities that allow for the enjoyment and amusement of individuals especially during leisure time and it covers the acts of theatre; social dance and cinema. Art, on the other hand, is the planning of different elements in a form pleasing to the emotions aesthetically and they include music; film; paintings; and literature. Entertainment is always art because it acquires entertaining traits from the artistic planning of elements and ideas. Art is not always entertainment as it may be created just for aesthetic value like in the case of paintings and drawings. (Robertson & Craig 4-15)
Art and entertainment are not the same, as entertainment forms a definite aspect and part of art, while on the other hand art is a wider field that is characteristic with creativity that inspires all activities that can be referred to as entertainment. Examples of art creations from entertainment include theatre; cinema; music and dance because creative planning is meant to pass some information artistically. Social commentary is the practice of revolt against a group or social system through the use of symbolic means. It is used to sensitize the population on problems like lack of justice like the need for freedom through Jazz music, the “Crazy blues” that described the American working-class life, and Paul Robeson’s fights for social justice using his artwork. New forms of art coming into society are not warmly welcomed due to the fear that it will break the rhythm, harmony, and balance that exists between the society and the already socialized forms of art as they challenge socialized morals; culture; and rationality. (Robertson & Craig 4-15)
New forms of art may also be highly welcomed to society in the hope that they will inspire new means of solving problems like freedom as well as improving the general communication levels that are available to society. An example of this is the art of diagnostics drawings cycle in medicine. (Robertson & Craig 4-15)
The danger of accepting new forms of art supportively; exposes the society to the need for changing certain aspects of societal dealings and relations to blend into the new cultural formations. On the other hand, the danger of welcoming new forms of art poorly is that; it places the society in a state that does not allow for the acquisition of new levels of advancement in art and culture. The movie examines the success and trials of the African-American artists who used their art to overcome negative societal traditions using the essentials of black culture. An example of these arts include Jazz music
