Because men and women are marrying later in life all around the world, the wedding has lost its importance as a ritual that marks the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Nevertheless, people still perceive it as the most significant ritual in contemporary culture (Agger 34). As fewer marriages in the world are arranged and more countries embrace a capitalist economic model, elaborate Western weddings are becoming more popular around the globe.

Jews from Russia combine Jewish religious traditions and Russian rituals followed for centuries. Jewish weddings can be described as lavish accompanies with music, unique ceremonies, and wedding games. The bribe usually has a white dress and veil. A wedding is a staged fantasy in which all relatives participate. An indispensable figure in a large wedding in Russia is the ‘jester’, the bad hen, who usually also serves as the master of ceremonies (Agger 54).

He is present with the musicians as the guests assembled. He is the one who treated the bride to a discourse on her duties as a wife. Throughout the celebration, the bad hen I at hand to move the company to laughter and tears. Before the wedding, weeping is expected and encouraged, weeping by the bride, weeping by the mothers of both the bride and the groom, even weeping by relatives, who bemoan what they are losing.

There is also laughter, laughter about the in-laws and their families, discussions of the wedding gifts, and sly jokes about the wedding guests, affairs, and even the government, all of the humor carefully manipulated by the bad hen so as not to give real offense. At his highest, his performance combined the skill of an actor, poet, singer, and commentator. A great bad hen is widely known and constantly in demand (Agger 29).

Similar to a Jewish wedding, an Afghan wedding is a big event in family life. “An Afghan wedding is an all-night celebration. It usually starts around 7:00 to 8:00 PM, and runs too well into the morning hours” (An Afghan Wedding 2006).

The major stipulations include affirming the bride as the sole owner of the dowry, bridal gifts, and presents; limiting the total value of dowry and bridal gifts as well as presents. Luxurious weddings occur most often in cities because urban centers are more modern and more connected with other countries of the globe through modern mass communication, whether television, film or the Internet. Religions frequently set the rules for personal and social behavior and relationships (Driver 92).

In particular, they organize and regulate marriage, monogamy, patriarchy, and police any violations of religious law. For Jewish and Afghan couples, marriage is a patriarchal arrangement, with fathers regarded as the head of the family and women and children part of their property holdings. According to Afghan wedding rituals, a bribe: “ascends to a throne-like setting where her new husband awaits her. The Koran is passed over their heads and henna for good luck is put in their palms” (An Afghan Wedding 2006).

In both cultures, women are taught from early childhood to plan for “the happiest day of their lives.” Men are taught, by the absence of these socializing mechanisms, that their work is “other” than that. The possibilities children learn to imagine are only as broad as their culture allows. Children are socialized to understand the importance of coupling-appropriate coupling-and what counts as beauty, what counts as women’s work and men’s work, and how to become good consumers by participating in those institutions that stimulate their interests and emotions and reap the most rewards (Driver 23).

Regardless of their incomes, couples frequently purchase wedding services far over their ability to pay. Religions vary in the meaning they attach to the wedding, but all reserve the right to require certain practices and beliefs regarding the wedding ceremony as well as the institution of marriage. IN both cultures, wedding ceremonies are based on religious traditions and values followed by their relatives in their homeland (Driver 38).

Many people believe that the advances of the women’s movement have been absorbed and are no longer necessary. Examining these markets shows that there is still an enormous amount of ideological weight placed on gender differentiation. The cultural codes of femininity permeate the bridal culture of both nations. Many women have commented in bridal magazines and other sites that even though they typically don’t participate in traditionally feminine behavior, they will deviate from this norm to have the wedding they’ve been imagining and preparing for since they were children.

A wedding dress, a lot of guests, and national cuisine are integral parts of the wedding in both cultures. Thus, American traditions transform native rituals of Jewish from Russian and Muslims and simplify them. Yet religious ceremonies do not carry the weight of the law.
