Report on the Presentation

The report focuses on the strategies that increase the sustainability of forestry in Brazil. To define the degree of damages and ecological situation, the researchers pay attention to such areas as logistics, plan breeding, biological control, genomics, food technology, animal science, and use of industrial residues in agriculture. The main objectives involve restoration and conservation of natural ecosystems, sustainable control of forest plantations, and rational amelioration of forest products. Sustainable forestry also includes changes by integrating silviculture, applied socioecology, and technology of forest products.

The concept of silviculture encompasses cloning and hybridization of eucalyptus. The genetic process seeks to increase the adaptability of plants to the dry climate of forest areas in Brazil. Fertilization and nutrition of forest plantation are also among the main sustainability strategies. The socio-ecological approach is described in the report to connect the social welfare of rural areas with the improvement made to forest lands.

Specifically, this aspect of research analyzes how carbon sequestration and sustainability forestry can contribute to higher social levels of living. Finally, the technology of forest products is of great importance as well because it contributes to the analysis of plant breeding techniques.

Further, the report elaborates on the major problems related to the reconstruction of the forestry area in Brazil. This is of particular concern to water deficiency, old technology, and lack of efficient irrigation systems. The first step to be taken should be site preparation that premises on the introduction of new technological systems for tillage. Such a strategy can contribute greatly to productivity.

The statistics for the period from 1990 to 2010 shows that the production of eucalyptus increased from 27 m3 ha-1 to 42 m3 ha-1. Similar rates relate to the production of pinus. Site preparation covers the introduction of a new irrigation system that can eliminate areas with low, medium, and high levels of water deficiency.

The report defines soil preparation as another approach to improving forest management in the country. Specific attention is given to pit digging and sub-soiling in the most problematic areas. Biodiversity conversation is strongly associated with the planning and reproduction of forest landscape using artificial planting. Understanding how the biodiversity of species contributes to the improvement of the sustainability of the area is also economically important for the development of the country’s regions. Hence, careful management and integration of modified species of plants will allow to preserve the natural resources and contribute to stable ecological development in various districts of Brazil.

Research on Sustainable Forestry in Brazil

The world’s greatest concern is focused on the disappearance of ancient forests, leading to the extinction of the most precious specifies of plants and animals. As a result, multiple ecosystems, including the ones presented in Brazil, have been lost (Greenpeace International n. p). Consumers, therefore, strive to avert the process of deforestation through greater awareness of the product they purchase (Greenpeace International n. p.).

The Forest Stewardship Council is a non-profit forest labeling organization was established to protect the social and economic interests of such ecological organization as Greenpeace. The main objective of this organization lies in inspecting and certifying forestry areas to make sure that they correspond with the local standards (Greenpeace International n. p.). They also care about the indigenous people’s property rights, particularly when it concerns their rights to land property.

About the above-introduced issues, Brazil has the strongest relation to the formation of the Forest Stewardship Council because many forest companies took part in certification of the Brazil Amazon area to evaluate its landscape and ecological situation. Hence, Woods Amazon was among the first natural forests that have obtained the organization’s approval (Tropical Forest Foundation n. p.).

Many campaigns have been initiated to promote sustainable development and management of tropical forests in the Brazilian Amazon region. The Tropical Forest Foundation was the leading project regulating and controlling tropic forest development through research-driven strategies. In particular, the TFF focuses on efficient models that contribute to the monitoring of government and communities (Tropical Forest Foundation n. p.).

Promoting interest and awareness among local communities is the priority of sustainability managers because it improves the ecological situation in general. Similar to the non-profit institutions, the TFF focuses on global standards, but acts locally (Tropical Forest Foundation n. p.). Such an approach to sustainable management is the most effective one because it allows the ecologists to define the main problems and consequences of deforestation.

Locally controlled projects, therefore, are possible through the rapid integration of adequate technology and the elimination of old devices. Introducing training programs is also another important condition that will foster sustainability project implementation (Banerjee et al. 134). Developing legal forest reserves also promotes greater protection of forest areas, as well as reduces the deforestation rates (Big Lands Brazil n. p.).

Legal issues are also crucial for minimizing the impact of industrial areas on the protected territories. Finally, scientific research and innovation are also beneficial for the development of forestry in Brazil because they allow scientists to develop new species of plants that could adjust to ecologically modified environments. Creating new ecosystems is a revolutionary strategy that can improve the situation.
