My research will be mainly centered on reviewing the hotels financial and operating records of the enterprise in order to know how they have been structured leading to the huge losses of this company, reviewing the marketing plans and how they have been structured, review on the daily customer comment cards in relation to this hotel’s main activities, customer comment book and general customer correspondence to my predecessor bearing in my that with my little experience with this enterprise, it is not performing well as it should be. In my research, it will be based on interviewing a sample of employees and a sample of the daily customers in this hotel so that I can be in a position to get the correct information.

It is in this research then I can be in a position to know the factors which actually led to the fall in profits of this hotel, be in a position to use these results in order to know the necessary changes to make in order to improve this hotel as a general manager. During this research, I will sample ten employees and ten customers who daily attend our hotel and the following methods of data collection shall be used. Written interviews, questionnaires and direct observation methods since these methods can give effective results. My research is expected to cost $30,000 in order to ensure that the hotel does not run into so many expenses leading to losses. (New Zealand Law Commission. 2001).

The key theme of the research proposal

The theme of the research is to ensure that this hotel is in a position to generate more revenue and ensuring that the revenue lines are always high. This can be achieved by ensuring that there is proper management of this hotel. This can actually be achieved by ensuring that there are well strategic plans with clearly defined goals and objectives that can be achieved. Have been reviewing the financial and operating records of the enterprise, including marketing plans and have found that these plans were poorly implemented hence leading to huge losses of this hotel as well, the customer comment cards, the Customer comment book and general customer correspondence were not used any more by my predecessor.

I am made to understand that this hotel is not performing as well as it could be. The financial records indicate that the enterprise’s profits are in decline. The issue of runaway of customers has also led to a decline in profits since you find that most of our customers have gone to other hotels due to the poor services in our hotel. Yet my understanding of the market is that our competitors are doing very well and general economic conditions are buoyant. I have also noted that the marketing plans do not identify any target markets for your enterprise. (New Zealand Law Commission. 2001).

Main contents of the proposal

Inn suites Hotel in Canada is one of the well-known hotels in this country. It is well suited near the Suites beach hence making the hotel to have a good range of customers from different parts of the country. The main function of this hotel is to ensure that, it has given excellent services to its customers, by ensuring that, the hotel is clean hence quality food, good recreational facilities for people to spent their holidays and honeymoon, and games are also available of every kind including pools among others.

The commissioner in this case has the role of controlling the hotel by ensuring that the hotel services are up to standard, ensuring that quality food is served to the customers as per the standards of the commission. He also ensures that the hotel abides by the rules and regulations of the commission hence leading to its success. As a result, am undertaking the study in order to ensure that the hotel retails its normal running by ensuring that it has made huge profits leading to its success. This is going to be achieved by ensuring that have reviewed the financial and operating plans and clearly make sure that the financial records are well structured through my experience and expertise as a manager, ensure that the hotel has well-structured plans, as well as good management.

The main problem with this hotel is poor management by my predecessor. The marketing plans of this hotel were poorly implemented just to suit the needs of the manager but not for the benefit of the whole company. In order to have good marketing plans, as a manager, one is supposed to take good accounts pertaining to the hotel’s sales and work in corporation with the sales team and show good sales leadership in order to ensure that there is good management, but in this case, the accounts were not well made and were also made by unqualified accountants, the manager was not showing sales leadership to the rest of the sales team hence leading to the declining profits.

The sales team was also doing most of the activities in absence of the general manager since most of the time the manager was not in, as a result, the profits declined. The poor management of this hotel has led to varied effects affecting the organization of this hotel. Turn away customers due to poor services hence leading to fewer profits, loss of jobs by the workers, since due to the fall in profits, 15% of the workers have been left jobless hence affecting their living standards as well as the whole economy, the funding firms have not been in a position to give loans to this hotel due to its poor performance, the whole economy has also gone down due to its fall in profits hence its performance to the economic growth has declined. (New Zealand Law Commission. 2001).

Literature review

In order for a hotel to succeed in its operations, there should be strategic management that makes an organization realize its objectives. It involves a process whereby the organization is supposed to have well-structured objectives and the organization is supposed to work towards achieving those objectives by ensuring that it has well-developed policies and plans. The hotel resources are supposed to be properly utilized as per those plans and are formulated by the board of directors of that hotel.

It is in the strategic management that the hotel is in a position to access and determine its competitors and hence in a position to carry out its activities since the hotel already knows its competitors and hence in a position to compete with them. If these needs are not met, the board of directors then needs to review these plans in order to ensure that the goals can be achieved. If these plans are not well structured you find that the hotel is likely to fail because you mostly find that the sales team don’t understand the customer as far as the product he wants, the right time to get that product into the market. For instance, customers usually take heavy food during lunchtime but not light foods, so the sales team needs to put this into consideration.

Lack of properly predicting your competitors hence if you don’t notice them early in advance, you find that it can lead to price wars hence leading to losses in your hotel. Failure to follow the plans. You may find that the plans are well structured but if the hotel doesn’t follow these plans, then it can lead to losses in that hotel.

Need for daily customer comment cards in relation to these hotels main activities, you find that customers would like to comment on areas which they feel are not catered for by the provision of customers comment cards. You find that this can be important since some of these decisions are good hence ensuring that, the hotel can be in a position to improve on its weak areas. There is also the need to revise the financial and operating records of this hotel. It’s by revising these records that the hotel is in a position to ensure that its finances are controlled in order to reduce the case of having more expenses than profits. As a result, you find that the hotel is in a position to improve. (Routledge, 1998).

Problem conceptualization

The real problem of Inn Suites hotel is poor management by the leaders coupled with poor strategic management. In this hotel, you find that the financial, as well as the operational records, are not well structured leading to the decline in profits. Poor marketing plans, since the hotel has made objectives which can not be achieved by the hotel, leading to many cash outflows that the cash inflow hence leading to the fall in profits. The dependent variables, in this case, include the following, lack of customer comment cards hence making the customers not to make decisions which can affect the performance of the hotel, untrained accountants hence leading to poor budgeting of resources and poor records leading to the decline in profit. Poor plans are not well implemented. (Routledge, 1998).

Problem operationalisation

The low decline in profits is measured by the poor use of resources. The resources of this hotel are poorly managed to lead to low profits. The low turn up of customers. The number of customers has also declined drastically due to poor management. Comparing the past records of this hotel, there was an indication of a high percentage of customers but have recently declined by 35% leading to the fall in profits. The plans are also not well structured; the hotel has set objectives that can not be achieved leading to more expenses which have resulted in fewer profits and more expenses. (Routledge, 1998).

Methodology

In the gathering of this data, ten guests and ten employees will be interviewed. In order to have the best results, the best methods to be applied will include written interviews, observation and questionnaires of these groups. By directly interviewing these groups, you find that the correct information will be got hence be in a position to improve on the management of the hotel the data will be analyzed using simple analysis procedures. Factor analysis, cluster analysis, Manova, ANOVA and T-test. Percentages, means, deviations, will then be realized using these analyses. These results will then be used to interpret and relate the study to other studies.

After analyzing this data, and then it will be recorded in a soft copy form and then presented to the board of directors by the use of a projector which will be easy to view and whereby everyone will be in a position to view. It’s also a cheap method to apply hence cutting down the expenses. In our case, the dependent variables will be the decline in profits and poor management plans. The hypothesis, in this case, is that these variables are a result of poor management. In this case, and then we will use factor analysis, cluster analysis, Manova, ANOVA and T-test in order to test these variables. In this hotel. (Rutledge, 1998).

Project management

The work of interviewing these people will be assigned to five assistant managers from our different branches in Canada in order to avoid biasness when accessing these results. It will also help us get the correct information in order to present it to the board of directors. The resources which we are planning to take us through our project will cost an approximate amount of $20,000.These resources include added computers in order to take us through the project since were are planning to take two months in order to successfully complete the work. Other resources we shall include transport facilities in order to provide transport for those managers from far branches, accommodation, lunch among other resources and we are expecting this to cost $20,000. (Routledge, 1998).
