An integrated, comprehensive, and unified sociological theory is possible
It should be known that sociological theory revolves around the need to understand our society and that is why we can say that it is centered on a given attempt. Therefore, we can wholesomely say that an integrated, comprehensive, and unified sociological theory is possible. Integration revolves around coordination and that is why several elements can be fused together to provide a harmonious approach to sociological theory because it is not interested in judging a society.
It is much possible to come up with a unified sociological theory because it is objective in what we are supposed to understand as a society (Goodman 23). There has been an argument that sociological theory is heavily dependent on scientific methods and that is why it is easy to come up with a comprehensive and integrated approach. In this case, there is no presumption that sociological theory will attempt to use concepts that revolve around good and bad issues and this is something that we can resonate with easily without any problem.
A unified sociological theory will not bring any problems and controversies to society because everybody will be in agreement with it. In this case, everybody will be privy to what is happening in society instead of coming up with judgments. There is no way we can say that sociological theory is complete and this is because it is still evolving. Because it is still evolving, it will give people an opportunity to come up with various issues that can still be absorbed.
There is still room to accommodate different ideologies that revolve around sociological theory thereby making it possible for an integrated, comprehensive, and unified approach (Goodman 18). This is because we will be dealing with a set of interrelated ideas that matter to society. The current society and world at large require a lot of systemization of goals. As a matter of fact, this is what sociological theory is all about and there is no reason as to why it can not be effectively dealt with.
Sociological theory is inevitably fragmented, consisting as it does of discourses that are incommensurable
Sociological theory can be used to make predictions about the future. In this case, a systemized approach to knowledge will be used to explain what is happening in the social world. We live in a unique social world that needs a lot of understanding for long term sustainability. It is quite obvious that sociological theory is incomplete and this is based on the fact that it is wide. In this case, it is running to and from various areas of the social meaning that it is almost impossible to measure sociological theory (Goodman 34).
Sociological theory cannot be measured or compared because the society that we exist in is a living system. Fragmentation in sociological theory can be explained from the society’s need to understand various aspects. Discourses will likely occur because the general society can also be described as a machine.
It is very much impossible to measure sociological theory because there are various aspects that need to be understood as far as society’s general wellbeing is concerned. Most of these aspects revolve around good and bad issues in our society and all this can not end up with a common stand or agreement. Therefore, we can not avoid the fact that sociological theory is composed of various aspects that will always be incommensurable as time goes by (Rigney 65).
Sociological theory is still evolving and that is why we have a lot of fragmentation as far as new ideologies are concerned. This is because it is a new concept and issue that has not been existent for a long time.
An integrated sociological theory in some areas is possible, but fragmentation in other areas is inevitable
As we have seen, it is still possible to come up with an integrated sociological theory in some specific areas and there is no doubt about that. Because it is still evolving, there are all possibilities that an integrated sociological theory can be arrived at by involving all stakeholders (Goodman 36).
On the other hand, it should be known that fragmentation in other areas of sociological theory is inevitable. In this case, it is hard to avoid fragmentation in other areas of sociological theory. An integrated sociological theory can be arrived at because several aspects can be fused together to come up with a comprehensive approach. In this case, it is easy to bring together different stakeholders with opposing views because it is quite obvious that they will likely agree on some areas.
Fragmentation in other areas of sociological theory can not be avoided because of various reasons. Society can be considered as war and these are some of the aspects that need to be evaluated and looked at. Society as a legal order needs to be fragmented because it can still be considered as a market place as a result of various people (Rigney 46). Our society has many aspects that will always oppose each other meaning that fragmentation in other areas is inevitable. Other aspects like our society being a theater and game contrast each other and this is what justifies fragmentation in sociological theory (Rigney 62). All in all, sociological theory is still evolving and this means that integration in other areas is possible while fragmentation in other areas is inevitable.
