Scenario Backgrounder
The issue of diseases in children and the unavailability of decent healthcare services are, unfortunately, integral parts of the environment of a range of countries, not necessarily the ones that belong to the third world (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2015, para. 1â3). According to the recent report issued by WHO, a number of children require access to qualified healthcare and are in desperate need for medical assistance, yet do not have the financial support required for meeting their needs (âNow more than everâ 2009, p. xii); moreover, the report indicates that some children lack not only the basic healthcare services, but also information on the means of keeping themselves safe and preventing possible disease contraction, injury or disease development: âFew would have imagined that children in Africa would now be at far more risk of dying from traffic accidents than in either the high- or the low- and middle-income countries of the European regionâ (âNow more than everâ 2009, p. 7). As a result, millions of children all over the world suffer from the inability to access the required healthcare services.
It would be wrong to claim that nothing is being done in order to address the issue in question â quite on the contrary, nonprofit organizations dealing with providing medical attention to people from a poor background and who have a poor socioeconomic status. Moreover, there are a range of organizations that deal with helping children seek proper medical attention. However, very few of these organizations focus on the multiculturalism issue, therefore, failing to deliver the required services to the people that need it (Dees 2012, p. 322).
To be more exact, the promotion of multiculturalism in a charity-based organization is likely to enhance the process of negotiation, as it will also increase the rates of humanist attitudes among the members, the partners, and the people supporting the organization in question. According to a recent research, multiculturalism is related to humanism directly: âReconnection with ancestry, ethnic heritage, and empowering cultural traditions foments individualsâ humanism through self-recognition and affirmationâ (Comas-Diaz 2012, p. 439). In fact, the phenomenon of multiculturalism is often referred to as the concept that is linked directly to healthcare in general and therapy in particular: âMany ethno-indigenous healing elements are embedded in humanism. The movement of indigenization promotes the recovery of ethno-indigenous traditions in the healing processâ (Comas-Diaz 2012, p. 439).
In other words, though the idea of a company that provides access to healthcare and nursing facilities for children, who come from poor socioeconomic background, cannot qualify as a brand-new concept, it is the approach adopted by our organization that makes the idea worthwhile. Specifically, the negotiation process, which will allow for successful outcomes for children and the further acceptance of the society of the choice that the childrenâs parents or caregivers make, needs to be mentioned as the basic asset of the organization (Graeve & Longman 2012).
Organization Backgrounder
The organization that is represented in the specified event focuses on the provision of charity-based support for children worldwide). Specifically, the organization addresses the needs of the children, who have serious health issues and cannot receive proper medical treatment due to the financial problems that their caregivers face or the level of healthcare services provided in the state or area of their residence.
Our organization has been working towards the mission of promoting an increase in the quality of living standards for children all over the world. Specifically, we address complicated health issues, which, unfortunately, a great number of children face in the modern world due to both poor financial background and the health factors that cause major problems regarding physical and mental health. We believe that, by addressing the needs of these children and promoting the idea of financial assistance for them, one will contribute to the overall wellbeing of the civilization.
Ina addition, due to the rapid increase in the significance of information technology in not only business communication, but also everyday conversations, the problem of multiculturalism has become a burning issue. Seeing that the organization attempts at assisting the children, who are located in different parts of the world and, therefore, represent different cultures, it is essential for the organization to be wary about the possibility of a culture clash (Dym & Hutson 2005). After gaining a certain experience in addressing controversies that emerge in the process of intercultural communication, our organization would like to share its experience with others and point at the concerns, which may arise in the process of assisting people belonging to different cultural backgrounds.
Finally, the issue of negotiation between the representatives of different cultures will be brought up as one of the most essential aspects of the organizationâs operations. As it has been stressed above, conflicts are unavoidable in most instances of intracultural communication, not to mention the intercultural one. Therefore, typical negotiation practices based on compromise and cooperation will be addressed in the course of the event. It is assumed that the process of negotiation, which is based on the incorporation of both compromising and collaboration as the basic tools for settling an argument:
A compromising approach may leave some gains of trade unrealized when adopted straight off the bat, but with an obnoxious or abusive negotiating partner, a procedural focus on fairness, typical of a compromising approach, may be the best one can achieve. (Schneider & Brown 2012, p. 16)
The organization that is represented in the given case attempts at improving the quality of life of children all over the world, therefore, contributing to their wellbeing and providing them with the opportunity for the childâs further successful development. Promoting improvement of living standards and especially the quality of healthcare is essential for the wellbeing of children across the world, which is why our organization is going to provide young patients, whose parents and caregivers cannot afford proper healthcare services, with the ones that they deserve to receive.
