Introduction
World of art is rich in different directions and styles that have been making a conspicuous figure for many years. Every style has its own peculiarities and bright representatives. People have different tastes and everyone chooses his favorite style and precious representative. The works of art help people not only be familiar with art, but also calm them and delight the eye. Probably, it is the main aim of art. Nowadays it is practically impossible to find a person who is not familiar with some art directions, pieces of work and artists. Impressionists’ works are very touching, romantic and full of light.
Body
Impressionism is one of the most famous and favorite eras in the history of art that gained popularity and its army of fans all over the world. Impressionism is represented by such outstanding masters as Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Piere-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas. The masterpieces of these artists are well-known to everybody even to those people whose life and work are not connected with art. Impressionism is sometimes named as optical realism due to its methodical attention to the definite image experience and upshot of illumination and movement in the form of the objects. “The differential characteristic of this style is that impressionists knew how to transform their visual perception of reality into canvas and depict physical objects as though they were in front of the viewer” (Gunderson, 2008, p.19).
Monet’s Le Parc Monceau. Le Parc Monceau is one of the most famous canvases of Monet. It was created in 1878. It is a very beautiful and colorful picture that does not leave the viewer indifferent. It is performed in the manner peculiar to the author. Le Parc Monceau (Figure 1) is one of three outstanding descriptions of the famous urban garden that is situated in Paris. While painting Monet used the slight interaction of light and shadow. This way of depicting was the crucial feature of his works. Bright sun illuminates a group of people and the viewer can observe how these people enjoy warm, spring sun rays. Watching this picture provides the impression of presence in this park due to its warm colors and trick of the light. It is possible even to feel the warmth of the sunrays, radiating from this picture.
Renoir’s Paysage Ă Cagnes. One more work of this period that should be paid attention to is Paysage a Cagnes by Renoir (Figure 2). Although Renoir was famous for his portraits, the landscapes depicted by him are marvelous. In the current work, Renoir effectively combined the woman into her environment with his supple palette and equivalent treatment of paint for figure and flora. The artist tried to highlight the feeling of harmony and relaxation that a person can bear while being in such a wonderful place. The excellent use of light creates a feeling of warmth and satisfaction. Probably, it is the main aim that the artist tried to pursue by this picture. Looking at this picture the viewer is impressed by the bright and wonderful colors that reflect the atmosphere of conciliation.
Cezanne’s Foret. Another famous work that is worth discussing is Foret by Paul Cézanne (Figure 3). The artist tried to create an organic environment and render some feeling of space, due to the combination of dark and light colors. The play of light and slight change of colors provides the picture with charm and interest. The patches of paints that compose flora cover the setting of the sheet, although the trunks seem to remain as they are. Despite the usage of rather pale colors, the trees do not seem old, if anything, they radiate energy and life power. If one sees this picture in the gallery, it is practically impossible to pass it by, as a successful depiction of the forest evokes the desire to look at this picture permanently.
All the three works belong to the same period of art, that is why it is necessary to point out their common features. First of all it should be mentioned that the artists stick to the point to be as natural as possible. The main aim of their works is to be true to nature, and from my point of view they cope with this task excellently. It is a very interesting fact, that when Monet, Cezanne and Renoir, while going to the countryside looking for the subjects for future works, take the oil paints, canvas, and brushes in order to become exactly on the spot, on the nature and capture what they see. Unlike a great number of earlier painters of landscapes, who worked in the studio. The artists whose works are considered in this paper paint enjoyable scenes of the urban life of the middle class representatives. In the works of Monet, Renoir and Cezanne, the artists depicted leisure time, as a result of the industrial revolution and its effect on the society of a middle class. In Renoir’s brilliant picture Paysage a Cagnes for example, the young woman is sitting among wonderful landscapes and enjoys her life and wonderful weather, her joy for life is described in luminous colors. The sun is shining through green and fresh grass and the viewer can feel the atmosphere of warmth and light. The woman depicted in the painting and her thoughtful glance cut across the evenhanded and incorporated work that demonstrates a very enjoyable scene. Monet with his famous Le Parc Monceau tries to represent practically the same idea, depicting a famous urban park with people walking far away. Monet never reproduces himself, as light and color are changing with the time and due to such variations and changes his every work is unique. The same concerns the painting Le Parc Monceau: the bright colors of the noontime sun, illuminating nature make this picture an exclusive creation.
While creating their works, the artists try to reproduce the most delicate sensations of the light. By using the specific type of light Monet, Renoir and CĂ©zanne demonstrate the notion of a special and ephemeral flash of time. One more common thing of these works is that these artists reproduced every change of light with the slap of paint like making a comma. Using the painting in such a way permits Monet, Renoir and Cezanne to show colors vibrations explicitly, to maintain the colors unadulterated and concentrated, thus giving the viewers the opportunity to mix the colors with their eyes. So, the pictures are performed in the way the viewer can feel the presence of natural sunshine.
Despite the fact that Cezanne uses the same technique while painting, his work Foret still has no such variety of colors as the works by Monet and Renoir. This work is presented in more distant colors. Probably, the main aim of the author is to disclose the beauty of natural colors. Moreover, among the two above mentioned works this one does not contain people on it, as the author tries to concentrate only on nature.
Conclusion
Every style of art has its own distinctive features that make it special and adorable by the numerous connoisseurs. The above-mentioned works by Monet, Renoir and Cezanne can be regarded as the brightest masterpieces of impressionism.
