The time gap between the two films goes beyond a decade. As a result, it can be argued that the time difference between these two films is significant in terms of understanding the changes in the depiction of the theme of love by the producers of the films. There are several changes related to how the producers have depicted the theme of love in both films.

First, love has changed between men and women in society in terms of the motivation to love by the characters in the films. In “My Best Friend’s girl,” the motivations of love are intentional. Tank and Alexis end up romantically loving one another at the end of the film.

However, it should be noted that their motivation to love one another came as a consequence of intent. After the discovery of the truth about the trick used by Tank to help his friends win the love of the ladies they love, Alexis gets disappointed in Tank and feels used by him. This leads to their separation.

However, the story changes at the end of the movie when Alexis and Tank rekindle their love again. In contrast, there is a change in motivation to love as depicted in “Titanic.” This is presented in two aspects. First, in the case of Cal and Rose’s relationship, the depiction of motivation to love is basically out of selfish interests. Cal likes the physical beauty of Rose, and this forms the reason why he wants to marry her. His lust after her physical beauty motivates him to propose marriage to Rose.

On the other hand, Rose’s mother mounts pressure on her daughter to get married to the rich man- Cal, so that her family can get financial security out their marriage. She forces Rose to get married to a man whom she does she does not love. At this point, it should be noted that the motivation of love is selfishness. The second aspect of the motivation of love is pure love.

This is depicted in the case of Rose and Jack. The two meet in the cruise ship and end up falling in love with one another out personal liking of one another. The love between them is mutual and pure. Both of them are seeking to love one another out of their own volition, rather than compulsion.

The second demonstration that love has changed between men and women in society as depicted in both films is about the environmental circumstances. The producer of “Titanic” brings out the theme of love based on an environment surrounded by nature. Nature becomes the environment upon which love in planted and grows. Jack and Rose fall in love with one another in a cruise ship. The environment surrounding them is totally full of water. This is symbolic of romance.

It can, therefore, be argued that this film is romantic due to the contribution of the natural scenery that acts as the location whereby the two characters meet and fall in love. On the other hand, the environment upon which love is built in “My Best Friend’s girl,” film is mainly commercial. Love development occurs under a commercial or business setting. Alexis, Tank, and Dustin are workers of specific companies. The love development and activities that surround these characters take place at their places of work.

This type of environment upon which love has been built in this film is actually indicative of nature of love in the twentieth century. It can also lead to the conclusion that love in the twentieth century was mainly motivated by commercial activities.

On the other hand, “Titanic” presents love in the nineteenth century. Analytically, it can be observed love in the nineteenth century was mainly inspired by natural activities, instigated by nature. Nature plays a very important role in this context in terms making the audience aware of the significance of nature in relation to propagation of love (Farrell 383).

Love has changed between men and women in society in terms of the love story in both films. The love story in both films is different. It can be observed that the love story in “Titanic” ends up in a tragedy. Jack and Rose love each other deeply. However, their love for another is cut short by the events that they face. After realizing that Rose had developed intimate feelings of Jack, Cal decides to do anything to eliminate Jack. A conflict arises between Jack and Cal to the point that Cal attempts to shoot Jack with a gun.

Additional violence in the love relationship can be revealed by the fact that Cal decides to detain Jack at the basement which is full of flooding waters as an attempt to eliminate him. The saddening elements the love story is further developed when the ship sinks after hitting the iceberg killing many passengers on board. Unfortunately, Jack is one of the victims of sank ship. The love story ends with a tragedy as Jack dies leaving Rose in a battle to save her life (Cameron and Major 34).

On the other hand, the love story in “My Best Friend’s girl,” leads to a happy end. While the circumstance under which love in this film is instituted seems shaky and uncertain, the story changes as the subjects end up happy together. Tank and Alexis begin their love relationship based on a lot of dishonesty. As a matter of fact, Tank is basically performing a duty when he goes out for the first date with Alexis. His intentions are clear when he attends the dates with Alexis.

However, what started as a game ends up in the development of feelings of love when Tank’s love feelings towards Alexis begin to grow. This causes instability in their relationship later as both of them separate after the secrets of Tank are revealed. However, the two end up together at the end of the film, demonstrating a happy ending.

In conclusion, it can be deduced that there are several changes related to how the producers have depicted that love has changed between men and women in society in both films. This has been done through changes in the depiction of the theme of love in terms of the motivation to love by the characters in the films, about the environmental circumstances, and in terms of the love story.
