These days, all offices need their employees to perform at their optimal best. However, it is not easy to discover what the needs of the modern worker or workplace is. It is important for business owners to realize and understand the situations or equipment that the workers need in order to function at their very best while on the job. These are the questions that Organizational Psychology tries to answer using a combination of scientific and sociological methods. To be more precise, The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Inc. defined the study of Organizational Psychology on their website as “…the scientific study of the workplace. ” In order to achieve a proper and scientific study of the workplace, an organizational psychologist has to fulfill a number of objectives through various means of intervention. According to the Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology these objectives include, but are not limited to; “(1) raise performance, (2) improve processes and relationships, (3) enhance fairness and equity, and (4) increase subjective well-being.” Having said that, we have to understand that this 40 year old field of science is relatively young and therefore must rely on other, more well established methods of scientific study for their purpose in the context of organizational studies. These results are achieved using various psychological concepts and theories which help the psychologist diagnose and evaluate the parts of an organizational business structure that needs to be changed.
