Making smartphones brilliant: Ten trends

Given the high level of advancement in the field of information and technology, Atluri et al (2012) asserted that the tastes and preferences of consumers are likely to change as a result of their increased needs. To keep up with the pace of this change, the manufacturers of smartphones have come up with innovative and creative ideas to keep up with the current needs of customers. It is as a result of this realization that companies like Apple, Samsung, and Nokia have come up with innovative and creative techniques that have improved the interface and experience of using smart phones (Atluri et al, 2012).

However, given the ever-changing needs of customers, these companies need to improve the quality of their products to stand at a competitive edge. To achieve this, the companies need to take advantage of the advancement in technology to improve on displays, sensors, batteries and power storage, web centricity, manufacturing materials, phone interfaces, OS convergence, cloud services, UIX models, and contextual services. All this will not only increase the quality of the smartphones available in the future but they will ensure that users get maximum satisfaction from the use of the services. This paper thus focuses on the benefits that smartphone manufacturing services will gain while utilizing the advancement in technology.

Mobile social networking in theory and practice

Lugano (2008) has noted the importance of social networking in the lives of people during the 21st century. According to him, cell phones and tablets have increased the use of social networks. Therefore, in his study, Lugano has focused on the use of social network sites by young adults in Finland. Of key importance, his study focused on the use of phone applications as an avenue of communication.

To collect relevant data for his study, Lugano used a sample of 18 young adults from Finland. From his study, he managed to identify that the presence and use of applications on mobile phones increased the ease and efficiency of communication among individuals.

As a concluding remark, Lugano stated that mobile phone and tablet manufacturers like Apple could benefit in improving the quality of their products and services by using mathematics and mobile social network sites to develop applications that would improve communication among individuals via social networks. This study thus focuses on openings that tablet and smartphone manufacturing companies such as Apple, HTC, and Samsung have while focusing on developing applications that would improve communication via social networks (Acquisti, 2010).

The Impact of Competition on Technology Adoption: An Apples-to-PCs Analysis

Like many scholars who have been focusing on technological advancement, Copeland and Shapiro (2010), have identified that the increase in the adoption of the latest technologies by manufacturing companies. In their article, Copeland and Shapiro (2010) have focused on the factors that cell phone and PC manufacturers consider while deciding on whether they would adopt or reject a given technology. In their article, the two have identified companies such as Apple, IBM, Microsoft, Nokia, Sony, and Samsung. These are the companies that play a critical role in the cell phone and tablet companies.

Thus, as apple maintains its operating system, most of these other companies have adopted the Android operating system. According to Copeland and Shapiro, the use of a common technology will make product differentiation to be difficult. Thus, the fact that customers will have readily available substitutes will increase the rate of competition. In normal circumstances, firms will have to adjust their prices to stand at a competitive edge (Lazer, 2009). This will ultimately reduce the amount of revenue earned. From the analysis of this paper, it is evident that smartphones and tablet companies that use the Android operating system shall face stiff competition in the future.

Public health-related apps growing in number, popularity: Smartphones, tablets used for health

While a lot of applications have been developed to support the growth of social networks, mobile banking, generation of maps and directions, Tucker (n.d.) has identified the critical role that tablets and smartphones have been playing in the improvement of public health. According to Tucker (n.d.), several applications that are supported by android-based gadgets have been developed. These applications assist users to monitor and control their health and the health of other individuals. Some of the applications that have been developed in this regard include the MBI calculator, Life360, Sleepbot, and so on.

Thus, as more people appreciate and increase to utilize these applications, manufacturers and developers need to come up with better applications and develop the current ones to meet up to the growing demand of users (Neti, 2011). Thus, tablet and smartphone manufacturing companies need to focus on this new opening and come up with innovative and creative ideas that will not only improve the revenue that they get from selling their gadgets and applications but also in the improvement of the health standards of the community.
