As per the current campus policy and regulations; it is not allowed for any students to carry out business activities using campus resources. This policy provides that students are not capable of utilizing the rooms they are designated; use campus infrastructure; post business web pages on the campus server or use the University email addresses for running business ventures. The rationale behind these policies is that the student’s neighbors and those occupying the same rooms wit these students, would not be comfortable with the business practices to be carried out in these rooms. However based on the survey carried out, the indication was that every seven out of ten students have the interest in engaging in business. This paper seeks to recommend policy changes to accommodate business practices within campuses, but still keep the university environment favorable for academics and ensure maintained student performance in academics (Dreisler, Blenker & Nielsen, 2003).

Outlined in this part are the advantages of changing the policy system to accommodate business practices within campus premises. One of the advantages of allowing students to run business within campus premises is that disadvantaged students will get an opportunity to create some income; which will help them meet their financial obligations of paying fees among other costs incurred within the university. It would also allow for leverage of the market-like environment within universities, which will help in the employment of organizational change and social transformation to nurture student leadership (Dreisler, Blenker & Nielsen, 2003).

This plan will create an opportunity for the university to make some money from advancing funds to students as business loans. The university will be able to reap interests accrued on these loans advanced to the students, as they help develop their financial statuses. The plan will also provide students with an opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge learnt in gaining experience, mentorship and exposure in business. From these students the University will be capable of getting business proposals and business statistics; regarding entrepreneurship on businesses it can invest in. The practice would allow student entrepreneurs to gain innovative new skills, get exposed to the business environment and potential business partners; as well as in helping provoke development ideas within the student entrepreneurs (Dreisler, Blenker & Nielsen, 2003).

Within the impact micro-credit; students will be exposed to competitions and business encounters capable of raising funds for student projects and development plans. From the business dealings the students will encounter real life, challenging business issues that will help develop the business mindset and wits they posses. The same encounters will form an important tool in establishing business networks and exposure like seminars; which are helpful in creating confident, entrepreneurial, community minded youths (Dreisler, Blenker & Nielsen, 2003).

As a view to achieve the benefits enumerated and maintain the academic environment required in universities; the following policy changes should be put into consideration. On registration or application for rooms; students who are interested in business should be paired or allowed to pair themselves so as to avoid the complaint that could be leveled by their roommates. A student body should be initiated to oversee the business affairs carried out by the students, to ensure that their activities don’t pose a threat to the safety and environmental fitness of the general living areas. An example of the considerations to be taken into account is hygiene and incidences that could lead to the outbreak of fires. The university should further provide a policy providing that students engaging in business should attend and take a specified number of academic activities within their course. An example here is that students should attend at least 75% of classroom lectures. The university should impose policy regulations linking the theoretical knowledge of students to the practical training available in business; through ensuring that students engage in businesses related to their line of study whenever applicable. The university through the student organization should oversee the business activities within the campus by employing policies; to ensure that a healthy competition is maintained. This would further help equip the students with pro-active leadership skills and knowledge on entrepreneurship; as they attempt to overcome their individual limitations (Dreisler, Blenker & Nielsen, 2003).

The university should also alter the policy formulations to ensure that the business activities carried out; act like an entrepreneur creating tool as well as a job making tool and not a selfish gain tool that would be used to carryout illegal business. On the same issue; policies should provide for which businesses should be carried out within the campus so as to ensure that, illegal or threatening business is not carried out (Dreisler, Blenker & Nielsen, 2003).

With regards to the University server and email services; the university should put into place policies requiring students wishing to use them for business purposes to subscribe to the services. This would help in limiting the extent of usage to this resource; so as to avoid traffic and inconveniences. On the other hand; the university should encourage and aid students in getting alternative access to email services among other resources, which can help aid their business ventures (Dreisler, Blenker & Nielsen, 2003).
