Introduction

The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks in the United States was charged with the responsibility of analyzing the 911 terrorist attack in the United States and also make recommendations on how such an occurrence would be avoided in the future. Terrorists prefer to kill and if not possible to destroy. The report indicates that Islamist terrorism can be classified as a catastrophic threat that represents a particular way of thinking which completely opposes western civilization and American values.

9/11 hijackings, chapter 2

The authors recount the ascendancy of Osama bin Laden without explaining the “old terrorism”. Some people feel that certain truth has been withheld from the public domain about Pandora’s black Box on the flight of the American 77. The Pentagon claims that the Engines, flight recorder, and the wings were vaporized but coincidentally also claims that the passenger body parts were identified as they were not vaporized. Further analysis from autopsies shows that there were no Arabs on flight 77, the 9/11 Commission Report, (2004a).

There is a question as to how the Pentagon explains the planes crash into the building. The claim is that the nose of the plane went through 9 feet of 6 reinforced concrete walls but the denser and the heavier 10,000 lb engines didn’t go through even one of them. Recently, the mechanic’s story has changed to claim that it was the landing gear that went through the 6 walls. New York Court of Appeals ordered the release of hundreds of oral histories recorded from 911 witnesses.

These reports from reporters, firefighters, and Emergency Medical Workers describe what they witnessed as controlled demolition during the collapse of the twin towers. This puts doubts as to whether the collapse of the plane into the building is just the main cause of the building’s collapse or whether there were explosives present in the building to explode simultaneously with the crash of the plane into the building to disguise the plane crash as the main cause. Some people believe that the truths withheld are detrimental to the persons involved with the suppression, the 9/11 Commission Report, (2004a).

In an interview, Lt. Col. Jeff Latas on the commission’s account of Flight 77 impact at the Pentagon comments that there are discrepancies between the flight data recorder information and the 9/11 commission. He thus feels that the government ought to do a real investigation on 9/11. He points out that this should not just be from a security point of view but also from an aviation standpoint. He thus challenges other Americans to demand more investigations that would clarify the discrepancies that different pilots have found with the commission’s report.

A naĂŻve as well as an illogical common excuse is given in the report for terrorism is poverty. Since there had always been poor and the rich why particularly 911? It should be noted that the main culprit of 911 Osama Bin Laden comes from a middle-class family, educated and fairly intelligent the opposite qualities of what is depicted in the report as the main ignition key for the start of terrorism, the 9/11 Commission Report, (2004b).

Conclusion

The explanations of the terrorists’ motivations in the report are short of regional, religious, and political history that explains the terrorist’s threat. A better study would have included a historical review that would have began with early Middle Eastern history. However, the report stands out as a piece of living history that the members of the defense community, armed forces, and citizens must become familiar with. It may take years for the facts to be clear to the majority and the controversies to be cleared and without the appropriate background and context, facts and recommendations of the report are insufficient to guide international affairs and America’s defense policy.
