In 1739, the Stono Rebellion took place in South Carolina. Some slaves were dissatisfied with the terms of the freedom offered by the governor of the Spanish Florida. The rebellions killed many people on the way from Stono to Florida.
General Oglethorpe considered that the Spanish sent the blacks to the British colonies to start revolts. These rumors affected the New York settlers significantly. The peace with the West Indians was made only in 1758, and it helped the British to come back to the plan of conquering New France, which ultimately came to success by 1759 with the surrender of Quebec.
