Background
The University of Virginia is a world class university. It is managed by a committee of professionals. The institution has two major departments that coordinate with each other to ensure the smooth running of the institution. The departments are the education and medicine departments. The university offers patient care and in the process its students are trained on how to handle patients.
Vision statement
The University of Virginia is to be a world class university in the field of medicine by producing the most qualified medics.
Purpose statement
The university was majorly put in place to train medical personnel such as lab technicians, nurses, doctors and medical researchers. It is to be different from other universities that train medics in that its training will be practical oriented. The trainees are expected to be fully equipped with the relevant skills for patient care and treatment that will enable them to fit in any medical facility (Lewis 2006).
Scope statement
The university admits students who have a passion in medicine and have the relevant qualifications. Thus, to pursue any course in the university, one has to attain a given cut off points in their O levels. The patients taken into the medical wing of the university include those with commonly experienced illnesses and a few unique cases (Nokes 2007).
Deliverables, goals and objectives
The university has a major goal of producing qualified personnel in the medical field that are scarce at the moment. Its main objective is to train practical oriented graduates to avoid producing half-baked graduates. The university is to produce around 2,000 qualified graduates each year to serve the increasing number of people needing medical attention (Nokes 2007).
Acceptance criteria
There are a lot of patients today who languish in illnesses because of a lack of skilled personnel in the medical field. The university will do its best to produce a good number of graduates every year to serve these suffering human beings. At the same time, there are many qualified students that are hungry for knowledge in the medical field. The Virginia University will give them a chance to pursue their dream career.
Cost and schedule estimates
The university will need to construct its two departments to serve students, trainers and patients to their satisfaction. The medical department will need around $1,000,000 to construct the teaching hospital and an extra $500,000 to fully equip the hospital. The education department will need to construct twenty lecture halls for the start at a cost of $100,000 each and a well-equipped library will also be put in place at a cost of around $900,000 (Lock 2007).
Stakeholders and roles
The stakeholders include the professors managing the institution, students, lectures, institution workers, government and patients. The professors are to aid in management and research goals of the university. The professors together with other lecturers are to aid in the teaching process. The students are to understand and practice what they are taught in the university. Patients are to give both the lecturers and students ample time as they are attended to. The government has a major role of supporting the university in various ways.
Chain of command
At the top of the hierarchy of the organization is the chancellor of the university. Under the chancellor is the vice chancellor who heads the professional committee that manages the institution. Under the professional committee are a good number of lecturers. After the lecturers, the university has the non-teaching staff and finally the students (Lewis 2006).
Assumptions
The major obstacles to the proper functioning of the organization are financially oriented. Sources of funds to support the two departments are limited and the university calls for support from well-wishers.
Communication plan
To reach the masses out there the university will first use the media as the major communication medium. The vacancies will be advertised in the newspapers and through radio and television stations. The university will also create a website to aid in both internal and external communication (Lock 2007).
