My IQ level is above average and is considered an intelligent girl. I am an extrovert by nature and move friendly with most of the people in my social surroundings. I lead a happy life respecting others’ feelings and privacy. Though I am emotional at times, I do follow a reasoning process about the social structures, social status of people around me, and the impact of culture on one’s life to shape up the individuals’ personalities. I am familiar with playing piano since I had the opportunity to pursue this hobby when I was a seven year old child. I continued to play piano for 10 years; but had to sacrifice the pleasure of this hobby in pursuit of more essentials of social life. My strengths are that I am a strong-willed person with focused attention on completing the task on the hand without getting distracted by anything else while at work. I found my indecisive nature as the most important weakness within me. I am also susceptible to external distractions while not at work.

I have rather a disturbed adolescence period, with the divorce of my biological parents when I was fourteen years old. Though both the father and mother remarried, their divorce has left a scar in my life which often makes me think about the peculiarity of the social structure, single parent families, social status of divorced people, the feelings and reactions of the children of the divorced parents and a lot of other conflicting thoughts about the society in general. Due to my nature, I have established a close-knit social circle with friends from different racial and ethnic backgrounds like Asians, Americans, and Europeans whose company makes me forget the past and live the present moments. The stay for a year in a boarding school in China before I moved to United States had given me a lot of insight into cultural and cultural relativism.

Analysis

I always have a feeling that substantively a sociological analysis would be able to give a fundamental insight into nature of social reality. A deeper examination of the problems of the individuals in the society – may be the problems relating to equality or inequality, harmony or conflict, acceptance or rejection – normally provides a sociological knowledge which implies the understanding of the realities in existence in the form of “experience”. The divorce of my parents gave me a life time experience and when I share this experience with any stranger, my experience would provide him/her the opportunity to meet with realities of life. There were several difficult moments in my life immediately after the divorce of my parents, which further shaped my stubbornness. At the same time, I started looking for alternative avenues of social pleasures, which will make me forget my past miseries. This has done more harm to my character with the attitude to be easily diverted to earthly attractions. However, I have developed the habit of involving myself in my work thoroughly, which engages me fully and holds on to my rational thinking to maintain my present social network.

One of the main ordeals for me in my fourteenth year is to change my feelings about my parents. That is when I started analyzing the social roles of individuals, role conflicts arising from the change in the social roles, strains in the relationships such role changes create and the flimsy nature of the social structure. Though at that adolescent age I could not attribute greater meaning to the social values or family status, I could really feel the kind of vacuum it created within my mental state.

My migration to the United States and the job of casino host, which I am presently handling, has provided me enough self confidence to face the challenges of life alone with courage. My perceptions about the social norms, cultures and sub cultures, language, adoption of new social status and social values have undergone complete change. My work experience has given me new ideas on life and on the ways to make it happier. The interaction with a number of personalities having different perceptions on life and the dominant ideologies holding their behavior and attitudes has made me shape up my own perceptions in a cohesive and clear manner. I could refine the language I speak to be more expressive and meaningful to other people I come across and I could really get a practical knowledge on the impact the innovations can create in the social lives of the humankind.

At the point of time after a strenuous working life of 5 years in the casino environment, I began to realize that I am too young to fit properly in this social world. I considered the fact, that I am only deeply informed by my life experience as a child born in China; losing the parental love and affection at the crucial formatting age of 14 and moving into the United States, in pursuit of a respectable living. Beyond my life experience, I have not really gathered any other knowledge essential to further my career and change the status of my living. I also realized that I sacrificed the opportunity of getting a higher education in exchange for the earning of a modest living. It was sometimes ago, that I finally decided to pursue my studies, which will provide me the full opportunity to explore my life from a personal and creative yet sociological perspective. I changed my renewed inspiration of furthering my knowledge through studies as my aspiration to get at least a bachelor degree. That determination to break the monotony of my life and to make it more meaningful has made me to write this life experience analysis as a part of my studies.

I can confidently declare that the work experiences and the impact of the divorce of my parents are the most significant factors in my life in shaping my character and personal traits as they had a large influence on my life. These incidents have become my teacher to show me the path in which I have to walk and have taught me the way I should live my life to become a successful person. Though divorced later my parents saved me from getting into troubles and caring me without any benefits for themselves. Work experience is another important thing in my life as marked my entrance into the social world, and find my social status and where I stand and showed the direction in which I should proceed to safeguard my future. Therefore, I conclude that an approach, which recognizes the deep personal experiences would go beyond surface manipulation and mend the hearts of the persons deeply embedded and deeply ingrained. The life experience changes the complete outlook and attitude of the concerned individual, towards the future course of action and makes him/her attain the social values, which he/she recognizes as important in their lives. The life experience also provides the courage and determination to walk in the chosen path to explore the future.
