Background Information
Florence Nightingale is a CSW and DSW Advocacy Group for a Better Society. We have the vision to create new learning opportunities for children of single parents. While we are new to this project, we aim to help 20-30 single-parent children in Finch and Jane through various long- and short-term programs. We are applying for a start-up grant of $75,000 ($75K only). This grant will start something new and contribute to positive change in the community. Our mission is to help single parents supervise and facilitate care for their children in the geographic area of Finch and Jane in Ontario.
Objectives
The goals of this program include developing a child’s independence at an early stage and engaging them in various activities in which they can find their joy and passion while learning. This project will undoubtedly benefit the community and the general public by engaging kids in learning and sports. This unique participation will deter children from crime and make the community safe for everyone. The project will run for 12 months, after which we will re-evaluate. The next stage will be to create and expand services in other communities we work with. Participation in these programs helps to develop more general education skills that can be applied in settings such as school.
Furthermore, to teach single parents good parenting skills and achieve this goal, we will engage the services of experienced professionals with proven expertise in this area. In addition, we intend to engage temporary workers to care for the children of single parents. This will enable parents to breathe fresh air and naturally do what they do not have time for. It would also benefit the mental health of the parents (Ahmetoglu et al., 2018). This will ensure harmony not only in the family but in the community.
Problems
Meanwhile, there are several problems that a community center could help solve. Lack of constructive opportunities and activities for both children and single parents. High rates of adverse use of leisure time by children and youth. The emotional and psychological stress of single parents due to lack of socialization, loneliness, and lack of services (Ahmetoglu et al., 2018). Thus, the program will help to start helping those single parents who need it. The aim of this program is to preserve children with single-parent families and restore the dignity of a single-parent family.
