Introduction
Anthropology uses a variety of methods to investigate people’s way of life. Nowadays, researchers began to use garbage as a source of information about people, their habits, economic status, entertainment preferences, and even political convictions. The refuses became the object of the scientific research of Garbology, a new branch of Anthropology.
The Analysis of My Daily Refuses
For a week, I have been recording all my refuses. The analysis of the records allowed determining which products I usually consume. My consumer preferences can describe me and my character rather profoundly.
First of all, you can see in my records that I have wasted a lot of packages of sweets, candies, and chocolate. It is not surprising as I have liked them since childhood. If you take a closer look, you can see that I prefer milk chocolate. Then, you can notice that I have not wasted a lot of packages of the usual daily food products, apart from tea, coffee, and fruits. This fact shows that I do not cook by myself. Furthermore, it makes clear the fact that I have enough money to pay for the dishes from cafes.
Secondly, you can see in my refuses record that I have used a lot of paper. I like writing, and the refuses of paper proves this fact about me. You may ask yourself if I like writing, probably, my profession is connected to it. You will find the answer when you see that I have wasted the envelopes from the publishing house letters. This record will, undoubtedly, support your assumption. In reality, writing is my hobby, and I do my best to find a publishing house, which will agree to publish my book.
The next item which will probably, draw your attention is the packages of feed for birds and cats. These refuse to show that I have a cat and a canary.
Investigating my garbage records further, you can see that I have wasted a lot of newspapers and magazines, including National Geographic and Wired. The former shows that I like nature, and the latter proves my interest in new technologies.
You can also see a lot of packages of popcorn and a package of pizza. This is because I have several best friends and we have a tradition of coming altogether on Friday evenings and watching films.
In addition, my records show that I have wasted the old copybook with a summary of the academic subject. You can conclude that I am a student.
The Description of My Character and Way of Life
Summarizing all the above mentioned, you can portrait me as a person describing my character, food preferences, income, education, and favorite free time spending. In particular, the investigation of my records of the items thrown away by me during a week shows that I am young; I study at college; I do not cook at home because I have enough money to buy already prepared dishes. The last evidence also shows that I work somewhere. It is really so, and I work as a freelancer after classes. In addition, I refuse to allow stating that I like animals and nature as a whole and that I am a friendly and communicative person.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it can be said that Garbology can really make a substantial contribution to the study of people’s way of life. It was interesting for me to know myself better by looking at just my daily refuses.
