Introduction
The roles and responsibilities of business leaders are increasingly changing, especially after the recent pandemic that forced many businesses to shut down. Initially, as explicated in the article, many CEO’s in large companies were more concerned with improving revenue and gaining a larger percentage of the market share (Reeves et al., 2020). However, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes, which organizations need to address in order to deal with the current unprecedented challenges and lay the foundation for further development.
Discussion
First, to become stronger as a leader in an organization, one should prioritize speed over precision when making decisions. It is imperative for leaders at all levels within the organization to quickly process the available information to determine areas that require urgent solutions. This is especially critical with cyber security where evidence-based measures must be adopted to ensure data and information is safeguarded.
Second, to effectively tackle unforeseen challenges and strengthen their leadership skills, leaders should actively seek and be open to feedback from a wide range of individuals and sources. Such leaders are more than willing to listen and implement expert opinions to resolve emerging challenges. Finally, during a crisis, leaders need to take personal responsibility for promoting accountability and teamwork within their organization’s culture in order to ensure that their team’s efforts are properly aligned and focused. For instance, the adoption of evidence-based performance indicators helps a lot with understanding the direction the company is headed. Lastly, leaders must strive to protect and, at the same time, allow team members to take part in the decision-making process, especially during a crisis. By understanding the team’s circumstances and distractions, leaders tend to find a way of engaging and motivating employees. Overall, by accepting feedback from multiple sources and taking personal ownership during a crisis, leaders can address today’s unprecedented challenges.
Conclusion
It can be concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in major changes that require business leaders to adjust their roles and responsibilities. Prioritizing speed over precision when making decisions and seeking feedback from a variety of sources are essential for successfully addressing unforeseen challenges. Moreover, leaders need to take ownership for establishing a culture that fosters accountability and teamwork and motivating team members during a crisis. Adopting these approaches enables leaders to navigate current exceptional challenges and set the groundwork for future growth.
