Introduction
Social work with emigrants has its own specifics depending on the age and origin of the client in need of help.
Main Ideas of Practice Theory
The main idea of the practice theory is the resolution of unfavorable life conditions, taking into account the national specifics of the client (Tsai & Seballos-Llena, 2020).
Sociodemographic Characteristics & Client’s Concerns
The sociodemographic characteristics of Daniel include male gender, Haitian ethnicity, low socio-economic status and incomplete level of education. Concerns of the client are the lack of financial income to pay bills and help the deported family.
Effective Research Evidence
Based on client’s characteristics and presenting concerns, the practice theory on the resolution of unfavorable life conditions would be effective with this client (Tsai & Seballos-Llena, 2020). Daniel really needs help in solving the life difficulties he has encountered.
Problematic Research Evidence
Considering the scope of the theory, the characteristics of the client, and the needs of the client, the practice theory on conditions taking into account the national specifics of the client would be problematic with this client (Tsai & Seballos-Llena, 2020). This is due to the fact that the client was born and raised in the USA, so Daniel may not have certain mental characteristics of Haitian residents.
Dialogue between Social Worker & Client
The three different techniques of this practice theory with this client include the neutral position of the interviewer, the creation of a friendly atmosphere and the slow pace of the interview (Tsai & Seballos-Llena, 2020). Therefore, a social worker cannot condemn Daniel for substance and alcohol abuse, it is necessary to show sympathy regarding the deportation of the family and give the client enough time to answer questions.
Principles of Anti-Oppressive Practice
The principles of anti-oppressive practice are to create a friendly atmosphere and will be applied in the form of compassion and patience for Daniel (Tsai & Seballos-Llena, 2020).
Conclusion
Social work with emigrants has many specifics that need to be applied depending on the personal characteristics of the client.
