Introduction
This project will cover workplace violence, its evaluation and implementation study and the processes of safety intervention. There are several causes of workplace violence. That can be because some workers think they are better than the others, others do not complete their task thus inconveniencing others during work. Some nurses who have had more time in the field tend to look down upon those who have little experience. There can also be conflict with the clients. The work output is minimal when there is conflict and thus action should be taken to educate the workers and stakeholders on this violence at workplace.
Background of the Problem
Once a doctor approached a nurse for an intimate relationship but the nurse was not ready so he turned the doctor’s request down. The doctor changed his attitude towards the nurse and he started treating her badly and overworking her because they were colleagues. Due to overwork the output of the nurse started reducing and the doctor always shouted at her when she had not completed her job especially on documentation. There was no communication and these led to some indoor patients being left unattended. The doctor treated the nurse and so she was afraid of reporting. By the time the stakeholders realized that something was wrong the nurse was running into depression. Apart from the nurse being depressed some patient had their health deteriorate due to workplace violence. This prompted the choosing of his particular topic for my project.
Problem Statement
It is not known when these workers collide with each other and maybe after offending they hardly apologize to one another. This project will focus both the workers, stakeholders and clients. This project will solve this problem of violence as the workers will be taught good communication skills and how to interact with one another. New workers will be reminded their rights to prevent them from being intimidated by those workers who were there before. Better methods on how to solve cases will be implemented and which in turn enhances a good workplace for everyone. Stakeholders will also be taught on how to deal with misunderstandings between colleagues.
Purpose of The project
The purpose of this project is to ensure that institutions implement the stud on workplace violence and make sure that it is successful. The design for this project is a case study and the methodology used was qualitative analysis. Through these project workers will also know that they ought to work in harmony so that their work output is good. This project mainly involves the patients because they are the affected most when violence occurs in the workplace. This project will ensure that the field of medicine is competent in terms of ensuring the welfare of the patients.
Clinical Questions and Variables
The questions in this research will focus on how the workers interact with one another. These questions will focus on those minor workers that have been mistreated and their feeling towards it and how they reacted afterwards. Clients who were victims of violence at workplace will also be questioned on how they felt and the effect it had on them in general. What majorly causes workers to be violent? Both workers and clients will give their suggestions on the better ways to find the solution and if the strategies put in place are of help. Between the female and male doctors who are the most violent worker? Within a week, what is the number of patients that miss treatment due to violence among workers?
Advancing Scientific Knowledge
When health workers conflict they hardly communicate and some doctors need coordination while taking care of patients. When a nurse and a doctor conflict, the nurse might ignore the doctor’s prescription of the patients’ treatment (Dugan, 2020). The patient ends up receiving the wrong medication or no medication at all. Without proper treatment the patients will end up worsening or even losing their lives. Without violence patients will receive appropriate treatment thus improving their health and increasing their chances of survival. This project will relate with other researches in that it shows the relationship between workers and their work output. Competency is the expected value of this task as it will be a source of information for other projects too.
Rationale for Methodology
The method of research for this project will involve issuing of questionnaires among the workers stakeholders and clients. This will ensure confidentiality of each response because the questions are open ended and they are not required to disclose participant’s identity. To be able to differentiate between the three parties there was a section where participants will write whether they are workers, patients or managers. Interviews will also be carried out for instance it is easier for someone to describe their reaction rather than write it down on paper. Both methods are appropriate for this project because they will fetch the data needed in good quality and quantity. The techniques employed are also cheap and have minimal challenges.
Nature of the Project
This project is informative and detective like because it aims at abolishing conflicts in work places. First through these project information on the extent of work place violence among workers will be disclosed. Workers will be taught on how to avoid conflicting with fellow workers and better method on how to solve a conflict in case it occurs. This project is aimed at informing the patients their rights to avoid being maltreated by nurses. This research will investigate different reactions of patients and workers after involving in any violent acts. This task informs stakeholders on various loops that need to be flattened involving relationship among employees and patients. It will take the form of an essay because the methods of data collection involve questions that will receive answers in essay form.
Sources of Data
The main source of data was the answers from the questionnaires and the answers we received after carrying out interviews. Questionnaires were the most reliable because most of them were answered well which made analyzing easy. Results from interviews were also appropriate but some of them were afraid of answering some questions. We also did some research from books to improve our findings. There were 30 questionnaires with ten questions each. They were questions that required yes or no answers with some of them needing explanation at the end.
Data Collection Procedure
There were two groups for these project and so the first question was to take the questionnaires and the second group dealt with the interviews. About analyzing we did together as a group with others writing while others explained. There was a total of 30 questionnaires 10 for the patients 10 for the workers and the remaining 10 for the managers. They carried out 15 interviews and out of the 15 people 5 were health workers five were patients and the rest were stakeholders. There was no specific method used in giving the questionnaires or carrying out the interviews. They were given randomly to any person who was willing to answer and only volunteers who were interviewed.
Data Analysis Procedure
Analyzing the collected data was done by every member in the group but the tasks were divided. Some members were counting numerical data, others were taking records while others proofread to ensure no errors were involved. Participants counting the numerical data also analyzed the essay data while giving them to the group members responsible for recording.
Ethical Considerations
There were a number of challenges encountered during these project and some needed integrity to be solved. For example some members volunteered to be interviewed but still became rude while answering the questions. They were kindly told to leave and give a chance to those who were willing to deliver the required information. Nobody was victimized for giving the correct information and no one was forced to write anything against their will. Maximum confidentiality was guaranteed to the information that was disclosed by the participants. According to Belmont Report justice had to be shown on any participant being victimized for disclosing information.
Theoretical Foundations and Literature Review
For these project to be a success the DPI was used to guide us on how to carry out the research and how to formulate our research questions. The main goal in these project was to find out the extent of the work place violence its effects and what the stakeholders can do to curb it. Ensuring patient welfare and maintaining peace at workplaces were the main themes depicted in this research. Maintaining peace involves finding better solution to conflicts, ensuring constant communication and teaching the importance of peace. Under patient welfare there was justice for victimized patients, teaching them their rights and maintaining good communication between workers and patients.
