Introduction

The Bermuda triangle located in the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda, Miami, Florida, and San Juan Puerto Rico, forms one of the greatest wonders of the world. This is where the disappearances of ships and planes are a commonplace. According to Winer (2007), “the initial claims of the mysterious disappearances in the Bermuda also known as the ‘Devils Triangle’ dates back to September 19th 1950.

Two years down the line, “a magazine called ‘FATE’ published ‘Sea Mystery at Our Back Door’ reporting unabated disappearance of vessels and aircrafts including the phenomenal loss of ‘Flight 19’ (group of five US Navy air force planes)” (Winer, 2007). These losses are beyond human comprehension and have eluded the human fraternity so far to the point where numerous myths have come up explaining the disappearances. Additionally, other theories have tried to explain the abnormality of this triangle basing on scientific believes and facts. These mysteries are not mare hearsay, there is enough evidence of lose and people missing in action. These are proves worthy creating an interesting subject to venture into.

In a nutshell, this paper is going to focus on the basis, bizarre explanations, ordinary explanations and the famous incidence about the Bermuda Triangle. This is intended to create an insight into making one understand this phenomenon. The paper will then conclude by giving a highlight on this wonder.

The basis

According to Winer (2007), the famous Bermuda triangle which is also referred to as the “Devils Triangle has its bearing on the Atlantic coast of Miami, San Juan, Puerto Rico and mid Atlantic island of Bermuda with massive effects experienced in the southern border just about the Bahamas and the Florida Straits”. Winer further explains that notable disappearances have roots back in the 1950. In 1952, ‘Fate’ a publication, published an account ‘Sea Mystery at Our Back Door’ which covered a series of mysterious disappearances of ships and aircrafts inclusive of the ‘Flight 19’ (a group of five US Navy force planes which were on a training undertaking when they awkwardly disappeared in thin air). It is reported that the flight leader was heard saying, “we are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don’t know where we are, the water is green, no white” (Winer, 2007). Whatever transpired after that is beyond human understanding. So many assumptions came on board of the strange disappearance with officials from the Navy Board of inquest purporting that ‘Flight 19’ flew to Mars.

The United States Coast Guard asserts that, the number of loses here are immaterial owing to the numerous numbers of ships that traverses the region successfully. As much as they so the United States Coast Guards still remains vigilant.

Bizarre explanations

There are many baseless details trying to explain the odd nature of the Bermuda. Among them, the Bermuda-Triangle.Org reports that the anomaly is an aftermath of unfinished technology by the virtue of the lost continent of Atlantis. The Bermuda-Triangle.Org further explains the theory as, the submerged triangular rock formation known as the Bimmi Road which is in close proximity to the Bimmi Island. Scientists attribute this formation equivocally as a road, wall, or other structures. Geologists on the other hand explain it as a natural derivation. These are among a few myths explaining the Bermuda triangle. There are many more others though.

Ordinary explanation

There are so many natural explanations basing on the known facts that have come up trying to explain this peculiar wonder. One such fact is the ‘compass variation’. Winer explains that, there is a fact which is familiar to navigators about the magnetic disparity. This whereby, the magnetic flux is more concentrated at the North Pole and South Pole and only exactly the same in a small number of places. The compass variation is unfamiliar to the public domain. Due to ignorance, the public may not understand these ‘magnetic differences’ responsible for the ‘Mysterious Triangle’.

Another natural explanation is ‘Gulf Stream’. Winer explains it as an ocean current originating from the Gulf of Mexico towards the North Atlantic through Straits of Florida. In other words it is a river inside an ocean. Like all rivers, all less dense objects in it will remain afloat and the vessels trying to ply against the current should have a strong engine failure of which they will be swept away down stream. Another explanation of a kind is attributed to the ‘Human error’. Winer states that human beings are bound to mistakes and this can lead to many accidents experienced in the world. It further points out that human errors led to the loss of tanker SS V.A. Fogg in 1972 due to incompetence in training regarding its operation. Other explanations are ‘hurricanes’, ‘methane hydrates’ among others.

Famous incidence

Among the notable evidences, there is Flight 19 which Winer explains “went missing on December 5, 1945 during a training session. The flight locus was to take a bearing of 120 miles due east, 73 miles due north and eventually go back to the origin finally, 120 miles away”. The plane didn’t come back. This drew a lot of speculations over what might have happened. The loss was attributed to an abnormal compass direction since the flight boasted the expertise of Lt. Charles Carroll Taylor a veteran in flight. A probe team consisting of 13 crew members (the ‘Marine aircraft’), went on a liberate operation but it didn’t turn up too adding to the weird circumstances. During this period there were no anomalies with respect to magnetic fields as Taylor did not say so in his conversation while on flight. The incidence left so many questions unanswered up to now.

Another evidence of a kind, Winer reports is the ‘Mary Celeste’ incidence. The Mary Celeste is one of the many ships which sank in the Bermuda in abnormal occurrences.

Conclusion

In a synopsis, the Bermuda Triangle which forms one of the world’s greatest wonders is indeed beyond human comprehension. No scientific fact can clearly explain it. Its origin can however be attributed supernatural powers.
