In order to plan implementation for the campaign of distributing and delivering box fans to senior citizens in need, it is first necessary to distribute the number of fans needed. As of 201, the total population of Wilmington, DE, was 70,166, with a percentage of those older than 65 at 12,9 – or approximately 9,100 (Census Bureau, 2020). Wilmington’s poverty rate is 26 percent, and 26 percent of 9,100 would be approximately 2,366. It is also worth noting that the average household size in Wilmington is 2.33, meaning there are decent chances that at least some households consist of two senior citizens (Census Bureau, 2020). It is important because fans are to be distributed based on a per-household rather than a per-person basis. With this in mind, one may make a conservative estimate of 2,000 fans needed, and, taking an average price for a box fan at $25, it would mean that up to $5,000 would be required to procure the necessary resources. Naturally, the numbers are to be corrected based on the more specific population data that is not available in open sources.
Considering the average box fan measurements and the fact that, given the modest height of the box when lying flat, these can easily be stored in stacks of at least 10, storing 2,000 of those would require roughly 200 square feet of storage space. Given that, it will hardly be necessary to rent a dedicated storage space, and the existing resources of the Mayor’s Office and City Council will likely suffice. To inform the population, both the City Council and the City of Wilmington websites will feature the information about the distribution campaign. However, their impact alone will likely be modest, requiring the use of external sources of information. Thus, dissemination requires social media and professional websites that are likely to be visited by Wilmington residents and enlisting their help (Kingsnorth, 2016). One may estimate the costs for this information campaign at $1,500. Interns will be responsible for distributing fans to eligible households to capitalize on the free labor. The remaining $1,500 of funding should remain for unforeseen expenditures that are likely to occur,
