Introduction

Not many of us think about what it is like to be disabled and have to navigate everyday life. The problem is crucial because equality and accessibility are fundamental to public health. This paper will examine the challenges that wheelchair users face daily, including accessibility, public transportation, and discrimination, despite the availability of amenities designed to meet their needs. For people in wheelchairs, for example, the current measures are not enough to guarantee accessibility.

Challenges Faced by Disabled Individuals Due to Urban Design

The lack of accessibility in public places is one of the most significant problems. Older structures were not designed with ramps in mind or other amenities such as elevator access or wider doorways. Also, parking lots are ill-equipped with spaces for disabled individuals, which forces them to park farther away than they intended.

Using public transportation is highly challenging for disabled individuals because accessibility is highly limited. With such barriers, disability becomes even more complicated to manage because it makes it harder to be involved in society on an equal basis as non-disabled individuals (UITP). In the absence of solutions to make public transportation easier, the problem will persist.

Lastly, disabled individuals tend to feel like second-class citizens because not many people understand their struggles or empathize with them. They may experience discrimination or negative treatment in the workplace or public spaces, which makes it challenging for them to overcome other hurdles they already face.

Conclusion

In closing, a drastic change is necessary to make life easier for people with disabilities to manage their everyday lives. More public awareness is necessary, alongside financial support from the government, to implement appropriate measures that make the environment more accessible. Finally, support networks and other resources must be established for a well-rounded approach to the issue. Any support is relevant in this case because it will strengthen communities and make them more welcoming to people with disabilities.
