Introduction

Social welfare is an integral part of any nation, and fostering favorable conditions is crucial. Without equal opportunities, increasing poverty, and other accompanying social issues, the community experiences a decreasing quality of life, which leads to low productivity, mainly affecting minorities and those of working age. For this purpose, the community welfare organization ABC will focus on the issue of social mobility and equality of opportunity to help younger generations advance in their lives by obtaining education, securing job positions, and housing.

Discussion

The research problem will be focused on social mobility, more specifically, risk factors of poor social mobility will be considered. An individual’s socioeconomic position may vary over the course of their lifetime or in connection to their family. The degree to which individuals have the same opportunities to succeed in life, despite their parent’s socioeconomic status, age, religion, sexuality, race, nationality, location of birth, or other environmental factors is referred to as equality of opportunity (OECD, n.d.). The majority of people feel that there is little possibility for social mobility; in general, OECD individuals think that six out of ten impoverished children will grow up to be poor (OECD, n.d.). Approximately 65% of OECD individuals of working age fear that they will not have as much financial security as their parents did, and a nearly similar percentage fear that their children will have even less (OECD, n.d.). The majority of people are dissatisfied and feel underrepresented in government when it comes to their prospects in life (OECD, n.d.). Therefore, in order to tackle the issue of decreased social mobility, the research setting will be the local community.

The research question that must be set for the community welfare organization ABC must be as follows: What are the main risk factors of low social mobility, and what protective factors can be involved to change the pattern? In order to answer this question, the first approach is to gather data to gauge social mobility and equality of opportunity more accurately. The next step is to undertake research, offer policy suggestions, and then think about how the communities and the commercial sector might help shape equal opportunity.

The type of data that will be collected is information collected with the help of a survey. This type will help pinpoint some of the major factors influencing social mobility. Moreover, survey results can offer more details than administrative data sources and facilitate intergenerational assessments than most administrative records (UK Government, 2022). Finally, when it comes to the reliability and validity of existing data collection or personally collected information, the difference is the accuracy and applicability of the data. For instance, existing data might be outdated, which will reduce its reliability, or it can have poor sample representation, lowering its validity. Therefore, individually collected information is the most optimal approach in this case.

Conclusion

Hence, the community welfare organization ABC will concentrate on social mobility and equality of opportunity to support younger generations in their efforts to advance in life by securing housing, stable employment, and education. Social mobility will be the focus of the research problem, and risk factors for low social mobility will be taken into account. The local community will be the research setting in order to address the problem of decreasing social mobility. The following must be the research question that is posed for the community welfare organization ABC: What are the main risk factors of low social mobility, and what protective factors can be involved to change the pattern? Information gathered with the use of a survey is the kind of data that will be gathered.
