Technological advancement is the backbone for the dynamic changes when watching various films; besides the old methods, today, movies are watched online using laptops, computers, and mobile phones. Furthermore, multiple platforms have evolved to provide easy access to movies, including Netflix and Showmax. The films are provided according to the age group of users, such as teenagers, adults, and kids. Although platforms release movies with the primary purpose of providing entertainment, such materials as teenage films provide valuable lessons, for instance, resisting racial segregation and seeking advice from experienced individuals.
An excellent teenage movie that offers real-life lessons, especially to young individuals, is Remember the Titans. Essentially, the movie narrates the times when institutions and sports teams underwent racial discrimination or segregation. The protagonist of the film is a black man named Herman Boone, appointed as T.C Williams High School; he heads the team playing for the first time as a racially integrated team. There are many important life lessons a teenager watching the movie will learn to help them in everyday life.
One of the lessons that young audiences can get from the film is that change is the key to success. Titans team was mixed up with blacks and whites; the head coach had to find a way to unify the team; he develops a motto that talks all about change (Remember the Titans). Similarly, the film encourages young individuals to identify their potentialities, and when opportunities arise, they should capitalize on them. Moreover, they should adapt to the changes that keep on coming their way, but if they do not have the grit to hang on and embrace the change, they will fail.
A young audience can also learn that to make it in life, the advice from older people or those who have experienced it is significant. When the Titan coach was fed up with continuous misunderstandings and fights amount players, he took them to a run at 3 a.m.; they ended up on Gettysburg’s battle, where he stopped and reminded them of teamwork. Similarly, young audiences can get an important message that they need to emulate those who came before them to make it in life or make effective decisions (Bartlett et al. 12). Therefore, sometimes, one needs to be a student; listen, understand, and execute.
Additionally, teenagers learn not to doubt their capabilities, no matter how tough the situation may become. The Titans team member Ronnie Bass played in the quarterback positions; he was not ready for the challenge, but when the coach talked to him, he set up for the team when they needed him (Remember the Titans). At times young people may find themselves doubting their capabilities when faced with tough challenges come their way (Bachynski 335-336). Like Ronny, young audiences should master the strength and face situations even though they might not have the will.
In conclusion, even though movies are always produced to provide entertainment, it is also a source of educational and inspiration to various audiences. Some of the films, such as those rated for a young audience, have been produced so that the content fits the age. A good illustration of such movies includes Remember the Titans that primarily targets teenage individuals; it entertains and, most importantly, educates. Young audiences can learn not to doubt themselves, seek advice from experienced people, and embrace change. I highly recommend young individuals to watch such films because they have a lot to learn and go through; such films help them grow and become successful.
