Introduction
There is much solid evidence against Robert Pickton for the murder cases. In the Pickton farm, police found a lot of evidence related to several women he was accused of killing. Some shreds of evidence are two condoms with Pickton’s DNA, part of Wendy Crawford’s leg bone, many bones and teeth buried on Pickton’s property, the victim’s DNA found on meat packages, and butchered remains of the other two women.
Control Theory
The problem-focused approach reduces violence by bringing together community members and law enforcement to combat ongoing criminal activity. Since morality is assumed to differ from person to person in control theory, some people may place a high value on following their moral compass, while others may not give it much thought (Hirschi, 1969b). Therefore, regarding control theory, it is preferable to approach compliance with logic and calculation.
Targeted reduction of homicide violence by identifying high-risk populations and communicating directly with the community and police commitment to end this violence. They can provide specialized support and services and use targeted law implementation sanctions as a final resort. This strategy often works but must be implemented with the community’s support (Blythe et al., 2019). Women’s homicides will decrease, but implementing that strategy can be challenging.
Close coordination and cooperation between multiple parties are critical to success in today’s polarized environment. The intent to assist must be respected when providing meaningful services and timely assistance. Likewise, the oath of persons deemed responsible for further atrocities should be returned with immediate and specific approval. This strategy brings together community organizations and law enforcement to fight the legal and social implications of murder, particularly concerning any individual’s prior criminal record.
Analysis
Reduce homicide violence by identifying women and sex workers, informing them of the police’s commitment to end such violence, employing targeted law enforcement interventions, and communicating this commitment to them. Subjective sex workers decide how to explore physical spaces and explore client relationships. To prevent more murders, Pickton should be jailed, and appropriate action should be taken for justice. Women should avoid strangers and inns, as Pickton takes advantage of taking them to his house. As a result of this brutal murder, appropriate measures must be taken, and whoever is caught should be severely punished and jailed.
Pickton’s inappropriate behavior and his ability to masturbate in his cell show that he is a sex addict, and such behavior should not be tolerated. Additionally, communities should provide social services and other forms of support that offer alternatives to a life of crime or violence. If someone has a long history of drug use or violent crime, the police can inform them of the legal consequences of being sentenced to decades or life for a violent crime.
Policies Recommendation
Proactive policing focuses on preventing crime, not combating crime. Police must anticipate crime and disorder before it occurs, using deep problem analysis to identify crime patterns and the micro-networks of people and places prone to high levels of violence. Agencies should consider evidence highlighting the effectiveness of proactive patrols when services are needed.
Hotspot policing and problem-oriented policing focus patrols on small areas where crime is high, and are more widely implemented and evaluated strategies. Implementing a problem-oriented strategy can be complex and challenging. Putting violence prevention ahead of arrest is a priority. Sharing information to coordinate the participation of high-risk populations and investment in high-risk areas is an integral part of this partnership. To establish a governance framework, agency leadership must closely monitor efforts at each step.
There is a need to implement occupational health and safety regulations to control the use of client objects and condoms in commercial sex. It is crucial to amend existing laws and regulations on prostitution to support a better working environment that reduces the likelihood of violence. Depression, PTSD, sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, and death are some health consequences of sexual and workplace violence. Social structural factors that affect sex workers’ vulnerability to victimization include policies, gender power relations, economics, and stigma. For example, legal methods of committing crimes are directly related to police protection and reduce the ability of professionals to implement welfare measures, including the employment of security guards.
Critique
When the state punishes an individual defendant, theoretically less likely to re-offend due to fear of more severe or similar punishment, the public is considered less likely to commit a crime if they know the penalty for a particular defendant, because they fear retribution. For example, when the public learns that a specific defendant has been sentenced to severe punishment, this knowledge can trigger a greater fear of being charged with a crime and sentenced to life in prison or the death penalty.
Impunity prevents future crimes by removing suspects from society. Imprisonment, house arrest, or execution are examples of impotence. Some would argue against the idea that men sometimes follow the rules out of pure dread of punishment. Hirschi (1969a) claims that commitment is the term for the reasonable part of conformity. Hence, it is not necessarily the threat of punishment but rather a personal commitment to conformity that acts as a deterrent.
The fact that criminals do not know the punishment for certain crimes prevents laws and policies from reducing crime by focusing mainly on increasing the severity of punishment. Guilty people do not receive the most severe penalties, and prisons can worsen recidivism. Although incarceration is unlikely to prevent future criminal activity, dungeons can effectively punish and keep law offenders off the streets. Prisoners can also learn better techniques for committing crimes from each other.
Conclusion
Various strategies used by sex workers to prevent abuse and reduce its effects have been innovative and successful in many cases. However, the lack of occupational health and safety laws, public health regulations, and the stigma associated with sex work limit these options. Our criminal justice system works well, giving victims and society the satisfaction of knowing that offenders have been adequately punished for their actions. This increases public confidence in the government and law enforcement.
