The manufacturer should choose the best and qualitative products. This choice is made according to the gate criteria. It should be pointed out that gate criteria differ depending on the rules of the enterprises or companies but there are certain factors which should be taken into account by any manufacturer.
The Main Gate Criteria
There are five main gate criteria which help to decide whether the product is qualitative and worth being offered to the customer:
- Synergy. Any new idea presented in the company should be evaluated according to the interests of the company. It should not contradict to the main aims of the company and promote its development. The fitness to the technical competence, production competence, sales force and distribution channels, customer base should be taken into account.
- Market attractiveness. New ideas are necessary to increase the popularity of the company. Modern world market always needs new ideas and customers wait for new products. That is why one of the most important gate criteria is market attractiveness. New ideas should be competitive and asked-for at the world market. Although when a new product is produced the competition is weak and it guarantees the popularity at the product. All new ideas if they are really new have weak competition and it guarantees market attractiveness.
- Advantages and disadvantages. Every new concept should be evaluated according to its advantages and disadvantages. What is the advantage for the company may be the disadvantage for the customer. That is why it is very important to find out the golden middle between such advantages and disadvantages considering all participants of the process of selling and buying. New idea should offer better advantages to the customer than competitor’s solutions. All costs necessary for the realization of the new idea and the price provided for the customer should be also considered during the ideation screening process.
- Newness. As has been already said in the criteria of market attractiveness, the newness of the idea is very important as far as it is an essential condition of weak competition. The idea should be really new to attract the customers and be innovative at the world market.
- Checking. All new ideas should be evaluated according to the possibilities of the company. There is no sense to spend time for those ideas which are impossible to realize by the particular company. It is necessary to consider all details of its realization, the necessary costs for it and the probable profits. If this idea is quite profitable for the company and attractive to the customer it should be accepted. When a new idea is provided it should be presented in details with all calculations.
These are the main gate criteria at the ideation screening stage. A modern world market is full of new ideas but not every new idea is a good one and has a success. There are wins and failures and those companies that have prospered or have become bankrupts realizing their new ideas.
