Introduction

This paper looks at art as a subject that has so much popularity but lacks artistic value. This is the definition offered by kitsch. It also looks at the simulation that is associated with it which is basically a measure of similarity with other artworks. It also looks at a situation in human beings in terms of art where it sufficiently finds out that it makes a person be in his or her own world when described in art.

Simulation

The simulation does several things. It reflects, masks, and perverts a basic reality. It also masks the absence of a basic reality. Lastly, it bears no relation to any reality. The movie matrix presents simulation in the art as it presents reality where Neo is a normal human being who has a job as a computer programmer. The basic reality is perverted as it is presented to be an illusion thus showing the absence of the basic reality we know by presenting it as a lie. It also presents a reality that has no relation to any known reality (Palmer, 45)

A narrative film is a film that tells a story of events to follow each other in a logical sequence and this is centered on characters. A narrative film reflects the reality we live in. The “matrix” is a 1999 movie that explores the life of a man known as Thomas A. Anderson or Neo. He meets Trinity a lady who introduces him to a messiah-like man known as Morpheus who is the man who presents the truth to neo that he lives in a fictional world. He also introduces him to the real world where human beings have been captured by a race of machines that live off them. ‘Matrix’ is the story of a computer hacker in search of answers. The “matrix” is a 1999 movie that explores the life of a man known as Thomas A. Anderson or Neo. He lives a double life and is a computer technologist by day as well as a hacker by night. He meets Trinity a lady who introduces him to a messiah-like man known as Morpheus who is the man who presents the truth to neo that he lives in a fictional world. He also introduces him to the real world where human beings have been captured by a race of machines that live off them. Cinematic kitsch has the effect of allowing the audience to swim in feelings where they believe they are free from a fictitious oppressor (Oliver, 13).

Dessert of the Real

“The desert of the real” describes a situation where a person suddenly discovers that the world where he lives is unreal or fake and he has only been living a lie. Such a character may discover for example that he/she is a superhero and is meant to save the world from a major calamity. Matrix done in 1999 brought about virtual and real-world into one place in an exciting and lovely way. It is a mixture of the gigantic and fascinating features of fiction and reality. It draws similarity to the September 11 attack when compared to a dessert of real. Its citizens were introduced to the “desert of the real” – to us, corrupted by Hollywood, the landscape and the shots we saw of the collapsing towers could not but remind us of the most breathtaking scenes in the catastrophe big productions (Horton, 34).

Conclusion

Kitsch unites humanity with the belief that just like in the movies; everything will work out in the end. These films manipulate us to believe in a world where one day somebody will come and save us. We also question the reality of our world which is presented as questionable. Kitsch in movies literary takes humanity away from reality into an imaginary world. However, on keen examination, they help examine the situations in present-day human life were multinational organizations literary control our lives like the computers in ‘the matrix’. They live off a man as we give them money. Movies like the matrix also present ideas to people that reflect the human situation. For example “the road less traveled” in the matrix refers to the choices that people have to make in life showing the easy ones may lead to complications later. As such it promotes responsibility in man. Thus even if such movies are classified as having no artistic value they may portray some ideas (though metaphorically) that are of benefit to man.
