As its employee, I hereby represent Marcellus Shale Constellation Energy, a gas company with hydrofracking experts. The state of New York remains one of the few American states with a ban on hydrofracking. As a company specializing in this area, we humbly offer you to reconsider this unfortunate ban. We can offer you a program of excavating shale via hydrofracking at a discounted price, as well as offering the state the free help of our specialists for future consultations. Let me clarify our position with the following information on the possible benefits of such a decision.

The main purpose of hydrofracking is the exploration of shale resources. Shale is a “fine-grained, sedimentary rock composed of mud from flakes of clay minerals and fragments of other materials” (Kluttz, 2019, p. 9). It can “act as a reservoir for fossil fuels like natural gas and crude oil. Importantly, fracking has brought large-scale oil and gas production (and the potential for production) to new areas” (Kluttz, 2019, p. 9). Thus, making use of shale resources can significantly improve the state’s capability of sustaining its fuel supply. It is in the USA’s best interests to excavate enough fuel resources to supply the country and its allies without having to rely on foreign imports. Therefore, hydrofracking is an instrument of getting a resource of strategic importance.

Hydrofracking offers many other advantages, both social and, which might be unexpected for some, ecological. On a more local scale, it creates job opportunities, assisting in dealing with the problem of unemployment (O’Connor & Fredericks, 2018). In a state such as New York, which is one of the most important states in the country, any possibility for economic development needs to be used to its full potential. But hydrofracking is useful not just in the economy but in other areas as well. For example, an opinion exists that hydrofracking can “help to alleviate global warming if utilized to replace more carbon-intensive fuels” (O’Connor & Fredericks, 2018, p. 63). As global warming is one of the most important global matters of the century, different methods of delaying or stopping it must be researched. Thus, hydrofracking can be useful not just for the economy but for ecology as well, despite criticisms against it in that regard.

Meanwhile, China enjoys active hydrofracking development, which stimulates the Chinese economy even in rural areas. Outside workers who arrived to collect shale gas increased local population numbers and even “revived the local businesses” (Sher & Wu, 2018, p. 636). Chinese people also welcomed “improvements in infrastructure, such as roads and parks” (Sher & Wu, 2018, p. 636). While American infrastructure is better than the Chinese one, to begin with, it still has to be maintained in optimal condition, and additional motivation for it due to hydrofracking needs to be taken into account.

Thus, Dear Governor, our company is making a proposal to lift the ban on hydrofracking in the state of New York. This change will benefit the USA significantly in many fields, such as the economy, social situation, ecology, and infrastructure. Most of the other states have already accepted the policy of enabling hydrofracking, and the downsides to such a decision are negligible. We are, for our part, ready to assist you in hydrofracking in any way, guaranteeing you timely and safe excavation of shale gas in the state.
