Why were labor unions established?
Labor unions were established as a joint effort by industrial and civil workers to seek attention to their common problems. Most workers experienced almost similar problems ranging from remunerations to general working conditions as well as interpersonal relations at their workplaces. This called for a joint solution from all workers to have their pleas heard, and as a result, labor unions were established.
Are they relevant in today’s workforce? Why or why not?
I do not have any personal experience with such unions, but I have a feeling that labor unions are still relevant. They have, in many circumstances, turned out to be the only channel where employees can confidently channel their grievances to the relevant administrative authorities without fear of victimization or whatsoever. Labor unions provide a platform for healthy negotiations between administrators and their subjects regarding employee relations hence helping curb unnecessary workers’ strikes and boycotts.
