Any organization needs management, support, and control for work, and therefore managers are critically important employees. Managers often determine planning, efficiency, productivity, employees’ commitment, motivation, and other essential aspects that affect the enterprises’ operation. The circumstances in which modern companies work are constantly changing, creating new challenges, threats, and opportunities. As a result, management responsibilities are also transformed due to the environment, assigning new tasks to employees. Although a manager’s position is significantly associated with control, today, they need to make more efforts to support employees to maintain motivation and productivity.

The development of science in various areas – psychology, economics, and especially technology – creates rapidly changing conditions in the modern world. For example, work productivity and speed have grown significantly, some professions have disappeared, and new ones have emerged. While fast development offers new opportunities, it also poses some threats, such as intensified competition, increased stress in people, the critical impact of trending on success, and many other challenges. Such an environment demonstrates the need for stress resistance for managers and the significance of understanding that the only permanent circumstance is change. Employees in this position should help their wards accept the changes and cope with tension they bring. Understanding the described peculiarities of the modern world and its influence on the activities of enterprises, managers will be ready to fulfill their duties in various conditions.

Helping employees is crucial aspect of managers’ responsibility – the emphasis shifts from control to motivation and support in the modern world. Any organization depends on its workers, and they, in turn, increasingly value their freedom and mobility. The extent to which the employer and employee meet their obligations to each other is of critical importance. With strict monitoring of assigned tasks’ performance, without opportunities for self-realization, employees will be demotivated and not committed to the organization. However, workers should not be on self-rule – they need direction for activities and necessary funds and tools for work. Therefore, managers need to develop such skills as interpersonal communication, motivating and supporting others, task delegation, and mentoring for successful interaction with people. With an effective approach, managers contribute to the development of employees’ competence, trust in the employer, teamwork, and productivity.

Rapid changes significantly affect all operations and activities in organizations, which requires an additional set of skills from managers. They need to monitor current trends while thinking critically in order to apply best practices in their work and planning activities. Modern managers also need decision-making skills as they are crucial for working process. Moreover, considering the place that technology occupies in people’s work and life, computer skills are also critical. The minimum requirements are knowledge of operating systems, office programs, and the use of the Internet. However, more technology competencies allow managers to take advantage of them to improve their own and employees’ performance.

Thus, the critical characteristic of the modern environment in which various companies work is constant change. Such circumstances are pretty stressful and pose many challenges, which affect the work of managers. Their professionalism determines the company’s success since only under the control of the best specialists, organization will develop and achieve its goals. Managers need to support the work of their wards, competently plan activities, be able to use technology, and monitor trends. Managers need to accept changes, adapt to them, and help their wards to adjust to new circumstances. An important task is establishing the balance between control and freedom of action.
