The achievement of habitat selection based on people’s preference contributes to a better state of their well-being. By consideration, biophilia is a party to this well-being state. This is because the eye of the viewer is selective and becomes satisfied by having a view of a certain landscape. Wilson argues as part of Biophilia that habitat selection has many aspects to the natural environment. This means that the natural placements of things have great influence on the state of being. This is because there are certain views that attract, for instance the natural water bodies. People have very little attraction to the urban landscape vis-a-vis the natural countryside. The contribution of the literal natural environment goes beyond providing natural goods to giving people psychological satisfaction with their scenic views. It seems the natural view has appearances that are appealing to the human eye and this is lacking in manmade scenes. Arguably, it causes relief, healing or attraction to those who are involved in viewing the landscape. This is not to purposely devalue the humankind effort to invent things by his knowledge.
Nature has its own way of doing things. It only behoves man to cooperate with the natural processes. Even in a heavily destructed environment, given a chance will let the natural vegetation re-growth. Given the opportunity, nature takes its own course of recovering from any destruction. This may be a gradual process. It is not debatable that man’s action have brought the destruction on nature as it is currently visible in today’s world. In the aim of embracing technology, this has led to loss of some very important natural processes, which is why environmentalists refer to the declining carbon footprint.
Trees are a natural beauty for many. Nature has its own way of dealing with those who destroy it. This means that those who destroy forests have a price to pay even if not direct. The destruction of some of the important ecosystems has led to the loss of important plant and animal species. Through extinction, this species are irrecoverable. These animals and plants have an important niche role that is lost once they are wiped from the face of the earth. Wanton clearing of forests has seen the forest cover decline from vast tracts of land. Endemic and habitat-sensitive species have been easily lost through disturbance caused by the forest destruction. Those species with a wide tolerance range of disturbance have been able to survive. The disturbance in question has been due to man’s quest to use natural environments resources as raw product for industrial production as well as clear way for settlement. This has continued to put immense pressure on the limited cover of resources like forest. In other cases, man has replaced the natural occurring species with introduced species. This is to benefit his ego.
The arguments by Mr. Muir establishes the basis of thinking on how man has neglected the natural environment and at some level pursued the path of its wanton destruction. Mr. Muir arguments show how short-term interests have forgotten the long-term at a peril rate and direction. Yet while these peril actions stand to be avoidable man has tended to neglect this. In a way Muir tries to depict the mess human beings have put themselves yet probably this is not what God initially intended it to be. Muir persuades that the risks we are facing from natural disasters are avoidable if we respect the natural forces and give nature a chance.
Forests host vegetation. They cover the mainland to the coastal areas. There are forests covering the mountains. Mainland forests cover rangelands forming woodlands. Mangrove forests occur at the coast. Montane forests are located in mountainous areas. Humankind has developed special interest in certain tree species and these are the targets for deforestation. These species have been overharvested to fuel the production activities of man. This has had a negative price on the well-being of the environment with encroaching desertification engulfing some parts of the earth.
Ray stories are partly reflective of the initially forested lands cleared partially. During the generation of her grandparents, that is when they started living in the forest. It is during this time when parts of the forest cover were lost. This does not make her happy. This gave room for growing of crops as well as forming settlement area. These were in the flat areas. In the rocky areas, the inhabitants decided to have plantations of pine trees. The scenery they live in marvel’s her. This makes quite attached to what comes across her sight. In this environment, she begins to reflect on the things around.
This is in remembrance of the forest patch that used to stand just at the entrance into the town. These have been cleared-up to give way to rental buildings. This forest patch lowered the cloud albedo and this caused frequent rains. The increased smoke in the town side reminds me about the importance of the forest patch as a carbon sink. It is due to man’s selfish desire to create more room for his habitation that we have lost the natural environment yet so crucial to our well-being. During the existence of the forest, it formed our tour areas for excursion as well as a haven for bird watching. All this is no more.
