Introduction

Prince of Tides is a film acted in in the United States of America about educator and a footballer Nick Nolte, who travels to New York city to help analyst untangle his sister emotional problems Savannah Wingo, of whom was a renowned New York poet. This happens after his sister attempt suicide for the second round. In spite of Nolte having declining matrimony he confronts his own murky secrets and decides to help her, Susan requests Tom to act as his twins’ reminiscence to help her unravel emotional throbbing events which took take part in her emotional collapse leading to the loss of her individuality.

While still working together to help Savannah, Tom falls in love with Susan and in the process, Tom is able to recover from his emotional numbness of which he realizes as a result of severe trauma that he went through with his mother, brother, and his sister (Streisand, 2008).

Theoretic Orientation

According to the movie the therapist used a relative of his patient to try and help the patient recover from the problem she was severing from, and in this case, she employed the use of theory which is usually seen as a device and a method in the administration of treatment, giving advice when doing analysis, or when training so as to help different individuals and even couples to understand and equip themselves with the know-how to cope up and solve real-life problems that may come their way (Streisand 1991).

Therapist key concepts

While using this advance the actors, characters in the film, and the scenarios are able to give out the figure of speech, and the archetypes which act as a trigger for reflection and discussion. The therapist also uses another more complex method in dealing with the patient of which includes dating (Streisand, 1991).

During the therapeutic session, the therapist used the figure of speech whose role was to try to help the individual to reflect and remember what happened in the past so as to be in a position to understand how to help her. Tom and the therapist fall in love this becomes helpful to Tom as he is able to recover from his emotional deadness and he is finally coming to realize that it was as a result of ruthless traumas that he went through it together with his mother, brother, and sisters (Streisand, 2008).

Therapeutic change

In the film Tom keeps on giving disparate jokes about himself, this shows how unlike he was and this may be as a result of a falling relationship, his sister trying to commit suicide, and also due to the emotional numbness that he was having. But at the end of the film, all this is reverted when Tom and the psychiatrist are able to help his sister and also Tom is able to recover from his emotional problem and finally, he is able to find new love from the psychiatrist and this helps in overshadowing the failing relationship with his wife (Streisand, 2008).

Conclusion

During this period of trying to help his sister several things happen to Tom and as he is transformed firstly, Tom is able to fall in love and be able to be freed from his emotional deadness as he realizes course and he is eventually healed and freed from the feeling. Secondly, though tom was reluctant to help his twin sister psychiatrist at the end of the movie he rejoices for having help because was healed from his numbness and also was able to find love.
