Shakespeare is one of the best writers in the English language. His poems continue to be read, studied, and performed worldwide. His plays are performed more frequently than any other playwrights’ since they have been adapted into all major languages. Shakespeare’s themes are eternal, and his accurate portrayal of people’s motivations and feelings offers an understanding of human nature and behavior. As a result, Shakespeare’s works are still relevant today.
Shakespeare’s plays frequently address significant, enduring issues. Aspects like treachery, death, love, and life. Even if he writes about them in a little ironic style and the backdrop of a 400-year-old England, the subjects apply to people today (“Why is Shakespeare Still Important?”). In many scenes of the famous play Hamlet, the young man struggles with issues related to death and the hereafter (Shakespear 45). The suffering of the character created by Shakespeare can resonate with the emotions of the person experiencing someone’s death. The audience will still be significantly affected by the intensity and rawness of the words, regardless of the situation, time, or location in which the monologue is performed.
Shakespeare is unquestionably significant from a purely linguistic perspective. Shakespeare created hundreds of new words, phrases, ideas, and grammatical structures for the English language (McMahon). Shakespeare developed words to express circumstances and occurrences that were previously impossible, greatly enhancing the English language. Shakespeare’s language may appear archaic, yet it was highly bold and forward-thinking for the time. Another linguistic value of the play is the ancient pronouns and words such as thy and thou (Shakespeare 45). The analysis of such language choice allows for the investigation of the cultural heritage of English literature.
Shakespeare’s influence on society is undeniable, and his work has significantly advanced knowledge of and appreciation for human nature. He invented concepts that still permeate popular culture, wrote about universal subjects that appeal to all people, and crafted recognizable characters. Shakespeare’s works are essential reading for everyone who wants to comprehend contemporary society since literature would not be the same without him.
