The client is a female engaged in prostitution, which is her only source of income and way to support her daughter financially. Despite the client’s low social status, she states that she “can change her life and can be what society wants her to be, and can raise her daughter just as good as anybody else can” (Metallica, 2012). The client tries to pay enough attention to her daughter and spends all her free time with a child.
The client looks tired but, at the same time, well-groomed. She sits in a closed position, and from how she speaks, it can be assumed that she has been in a depressed mood for some time. She smiles to say that she works in the “entertainment business,” but this smile is more of a defensive reaction to avoid public condemnation.
The client needs the help of a social worker to find a new job and source of income to meet her needs and the needs of her daughter. The woman was subject to sexual violence and beatings; moreover, long-term work in the field of sexual services also affected her mental health. Therefore, first of all, the client needs the help of a qualified mental health professional.
It is also necessary to notify the client about the risks her activity carries for her health and offer to undergo a complete diagnosis of her condition with subsequent treatment if necessary. In addition, the child is in the same apartment with the mother when she provides sexual services and often becomes a witness to situations that can traumatize the child’s psyche. Therefore, it is essential to provide psychological support to the girl. The task of a social worker is to help the client undergo psychological rehabilitation and find a legitimate job to provide for herself and the child.
