Career In Social Work
Social work career is not an attractive career to many people because you can never make a lot of money right away. I have had this interest in social work since I was young, and I used to express great enthusiasm for church and school service events. As I grew older, I volunteered in most community events, such as helping with free cancer screening and serving at the hospitals. I have had the feeling of helping to create a positive change in the community for the disabled and marginalized groups. My greatest motivation to make a career in social work was my strong desire to help others. I care about people’s lives, and I do not particularly appreciate seeing people struggle with simple aspects of life that I can help them solve. Social work has been an everyday part of my life, and I want it to continue to be my profession.
My interest in social work grew as I began to see how my efforts could improve people’s lives. I realized this personally when close friends would come to me for advice, giving them a shoulder to lean on. My other reason for developing an interest in social work is that it allows me to advocate. I enjoy listening to people’s problems, and no matter how horrific or unique the story is, I offer my counseling without being judgmental. I want to become a social worker to give directions to people who cannot have directions from other sources. I have the desire to fight for human rights and social change, and I want to fight for justice in all corners to make society a better place. Finally, I desire to listen to people’s needs, ranging from children to adults and to people struggling with addictions, to help them change their perception of life to improve their quality of life.
Professional Behavior and Accountability
The social work profession facilitates social changes and the empowerment of people in a society. It is, therefore, a profession that employs the principles of social justice and respect for human rights and diversity. To me, professional behavior and accountability in social work mean being moral and responsible to others. Social work has professional and regulatory guidelines for accountability, as a student, I must uphold and maintain professional responsibility which protects the title of this career. Social work professional requires people who are reliable honest and trustworthy. Therefore, as a student, I must adhere to these regulations and be answerable to professional social work bodies. Being professional and accountable also means abiding by the rules and the rules enforced by appropriate government agencies.
Social work requires core skills and values that are necessary and that society needs for its general well-being. As a student, I am expected to show a high level of integrity and humility when working with others while upholding professional standards of conduct. The public will develop trust in me depending on how professional I look when handling specific issues. As a social worker, one will have criteria to guide his practices, and the central idea is the pledge to serve the public in the clients’ best interest. A social worker, therefore, must act ethically and responsibly to meet the professionalism of the career. Finally, doing social work is a human behavior whose professional ethics are meant to serve the community. It focuses mainly on the obligations to clients and society and not the rights and benefits that a social worker should enjoy.
