Introduction
The proper functioning of society is related to many issues, including a generally high level of life, compliance with laws and moral principles, and social assistance to socially vulnerable categories of the population. From my personal standpoint, addiction causes an obligation for society to create and implement a concrete mechanism that will help addicted people in their reintegration into the community.
Discussion
In my opinion, society as a collection of individuals is obliged to play the role of paramount importance in addiction recovery. The reason for such an obligations existence is the predisposition of a human being to different types of addictions. Therefore, anyone can acquire an addiction, and excluding such an individual from society will not solve the problem (Capuzzi & Sharpe, 2020). The mechanism of this obligations performance can be the organisation of different measures aimed at preventing addiction occurrence or alternative treatment facilities establishment, including medical and group approaches. Thus, society’s role was strictly limited to establishing institutions engaged only in addiction recovery assistance. This approach proved ineffective as it aimed only at fighting addiction, not helping the addicted person return to active social life.
Group Approach as the Main Recovery Method
The first and foremost point is that the group approach shifts treatment to the natural environment and reconnects addiction therapy to a more comprehensive and long-lasting recovery process. I suppose that this method has different advantages compared to formal treatment because it supports people with addiction issues in recovering. People with less severe cases and more capital for recuperation are diverted into the community’s natural systems that facilitate rehabilitation, which leads to readmission to less intensive, more expensive levels of care. I believe that community support also increases the number of persons seeking addiction treatment. The group approach reduces relapse episodes’ frequency, severity, and length after therapy. (William & White, 2010).
Conclusion
Group treatment is an effective and beneficial treatment that is more and more widely used in addiction recovery. I can conclude that this therapeutic method corrected the treatment’s opposing sides and successfully helped addicted people recover differently.
