Maat means land is a short film by Fox Maxy where he compiles a set of different recordings in his daily activities. The film is made up of many unrelated events as they are random recordings of Maxy’s exploration. This paper covers the content or the subject matter of the film as expressed. As he randomly records, Maxy explores three main concepts, namely, culture, nature, and politics. The short video goes against the rule of filmmaking whereby Maxy rerecord other filmmaking and videos. The editing of the film also allows the producer to give the raw recording of the video to the audience.
Culture is shown on many occasions, especially where Maxy attends two main cultural dances. The first dance happens during the day, and from the film, one can see people sitting in a huge circle while the dancers dance at the center. The second dance is recorded at night, where the wood fire provides the lighting. On separate occasions, Maxy records his space while enjoying the beauty of nature. One event shows him walking across beautiful green bushes and finds clear flowing water in the river. Maxy spends some time playing with the water using his hand; he seems to enjoy his time in the water. Politics are shown where the star records from a moving car which after reaching a border the concerned security stops them for checking. Later, Maxy records a video game whereby in the game, three players are watching television. The speaker on the television is talking about how the government has failed in its duties to protect the citizens. All in all, the general video is more of a collection of recordings as opposed to being a film.
