Innovative Visions of the Future in Modern Filmmaking
The fantastic ideas that directors and screenwriters use to describe the future they envision are often fascinating and out of the box. Modern filmmaking technologies allow for high realism, making viewing even more interesting and immersing the viewer in a specific story. As an example of such a film, I have chosen the recently created movie “I Am Human,” released in 2019 and directed by Elena Gaby and Taryn Southern.
Societal Relevance of Medical Advancements in I Am Human
The theme of the difference between the people of the future and the modern is the root of “I Am Human.” The ability to restore lost vital functions and health, for example, the ability to walk independently or move without a wheelchair, is relevant today. The socioeconomic hardship that many people experience is often a barrier to treatment. In addition, expensive surgeries, usually performed abroad or with high-precision equipment, are sometimes beyond the reach of ordinary people. Therefore, the topic raised in “I Am Human” is of great importance to modern society and gives rise to the hope that, in the future, such barriers will cease to exist.
Personal Responsibility and Life-Changing Decisions
The theme of personal responsibility for decisions is another directorial move that encourages the viewer to think about the consequences of actions. As one can see from the stories of different people in “I Am Human,” they all have distinctive life stories and challenges. However, what they have in common is a desire to change their lives, and by deciding to transplant automated components implanted into their bodies, they take a serious step. Only a hopeful person can decide on such an act, and the examples of the characters confirm this.
Evolving Social Perceptions of Technological Innovation
Another film plot theme is the change in social perceptions toward innovation. A few decades ago, people would not have believed the stories presented in the film. However, today, many ideas do not look fantastic, and technological progress is a strong argument in favor of a possible repetition of such a scenario. Hope for the benefits that technology will bring and faith in the ingenuity of creatives bring people together, instilling faith in bioengineering innovation, and pushing forward progress.
