There are numerous criteria for assessing the level of globality of different megacities. Tokyo is one of the prime examples of capitals whose structure is an important part of global politics, culture and economy. Nevertheless, these areas in the city are unbalanced, which creates important points of growth for Tokyo. In order for Japan’s capital to become a global place, the focus needs to shift toward the development of services and the expansion of economic activities beyond the geographical and business center.
In terms of global prominence, Tokyo has been an important point on the world map for many years. As early as the 15th century, this city combined the financial and resource flows of Asian and some Western countries (Almazan, 2022). The capital has had several record titles, including, the largest industrial center in Asia, as well as the largest agglomeration of the region (Almazan, 2022). The situation is now such that Tokyo is a prominent center of international trade, production and cultural life. Nevertheless, an significant focus should be the expansion of the service sector. The latter would allow the city to reach an equal level of competition with Western capitals in terms of globalization. The center of Tokyo is now a concentration of production and financial resources, giving no space to the influx of visitors to various customer services.
Moreover, it is important to keep in mind that an even concentration of cultural and social spaces over the entire area is necessary to make the city attractive to international tourists. Homogeneity should be an important factor that can increase Tokyo’s global recognition. It is vital for the city authorities to establish systems of incentives for the creation of industries in the outer, peripheral parts (Almazan, 2022). Moreover, developing a preferential program for entrepreneurs in the fields of education, culture and, in general, the provision of various services should be operated.
Thus, Tokyo’s globality can be enhanced by taking into account all possible areas of the organization of life in Tokyo. Not enough attention is paid to the areas related to working with people, organizing their leisure time and quality services. If the government attracts more investment in this sector, in particular international companies, the capital’s activities will become attractive to a larger segment of tourists and companies. Consequently, the significance of the Japanese capital in the global space will become greater.
