There are many early life factors relevant to shaping women’s work plans. My middle-class upbringing motivated my decision regarding work plans because I was made to believe that being able to pay for my bills would not only satisfy me but inspire my children. Uncertainty in the future and work expectations shaped the work plans of most of my women friends. The area of residence where one is brought up is an influencer that the author misses regarding the factors that shaped women’s work plans. The flexibility of the economy and future uncertainties make women work steadily.
Women face many workplace obstacles that make some disengage from the workforce. For this reason, there is a need for the government and businesses to enact policies that can address these challenging circumstances. The workplace pressure and family responsibilities contribute to most women’s choice to disengage from the workforce. The government and businesses should provide room for on-site childcare, paid leaves, adequate breastfeeding time, and schedule flexibilities to address the challenge of pulling back from the workforce by most of them.
Women balance work and family, where each has a series of responsibilities. Most women in my inner circle find work as a source of livelihood and family as a place to drive their comfort. Since peace and comfort are healthy, they argue that their families are more precious than their jobs, and they would leave a workforce where pressure and intimidation exist at the expense of their families. Today, most families are separated and unstable because of couples’ work. However, the media seems to advocate for unity among families and employee rights, enabling women employees to balance work and family.
