Primary Research Questions
The project has two primary research questions associated with Schumpeter’s innovative entrepreneurship theory and Ooredoo’s practices and activities. Firstly, I seek to identify the vital aspects of innovation — what allows to qualify a product, business, or organizational practice as innovative. Secondly, the project attempts to trace the evolution of the Schumpeterian approach to innovation. In particular, I seek to examine how the increasingly growing role of knowledge affects modern entrepreneurship and social development. Finally, I would like to illustrate how modern businesses apply the Schumpeterian and neo-Schumpeterian approaches in the case of Ooredoo, the leading telecom company in Qatar. Consequently, the question is whether Ooredoo’s recent activities align with the Schumpeterian innovative entrepreneurship concept. In turn, these research questions serve as a foundation for the research aims stated in my research proposal.
Research Questions’ Importance for Academics and Practitioners
The research questions stated in the previous section are important both for academics and business practitioners. The academics may find value in reassessing the Schumpeterian criteria of innovation and entrepreneurship. The classic Schumpeter’s theory remains relevant in the modern age, so revisiting it may be interesting for the scholarly community. Specifically, the linkage between knowledge and commercialization and the role of knowledge in socio-economic development through innovation may stimulate interesting topics for further research. For such practitioners as business owners and managers, the answers to the research questions may offer additional assistance in understanding the concepts of innovation development and practical implementation. Overall, the potential findings may be valuable both for the companies willing to develop or adopt business innovations and for the scholars in the socio-economic field interested in Schumpeterian and neo-Schumpeterian entrepreneurship models.
Methodology, Data, Analysis
The study will utilize the mixed narrative literature review methodology based on analyzing the credible academic and industry sources on Schumpeter’s entrepreneurship theory and Ooredoo’s innovations and business activities. Essentially, the review of secondary data sources on the Schumpeterian and neo-Schumpeterian models will serve as a basis for the case study of Ooredoo’s business and organizational innovations. In the first stage, I will review the secondary sources on Schumpeter’s theory in order to draw a list of criteria for innovation and trace the potential evolution of the innovative entrepreneurship concept. In the second stage, I will assess the secondary sources on the recent Ooredoo’s business activities and changes in organizational practices to evaluate whether this company applies the innovative entrepreneurship principles in its operations. Finally, I will summarize my findings regarding the state of Schumpeter’s theory and its potential application by Ooredoo.
Project Completion Timeline
The successful project completion will largely depend on the quantity and quality of the secondary data sources, as well as on the depth of analysis and regular feedback from the supervisor. As such, I plan to arrange my first supervisor meeting at the end of August 2022. Next, I intend to spend approximately one month on an extended literature review, from the end of August to the beginning of October. I will meet the supervisor for the second time at the end of September 2022 to receive feedback regarding my source selection and preliminary ideas. October 2022 will be scheduled for an in-depth source review and information analysis. I plan to write a paper draft, submit it for supervisor check, and receive the feedback at the third supervisor meeting by the end of November 2022. Lastly, I will complete a write-up at the beginning of December 2022, thus finishing the project.
