How to Motivate Individuals, Teams, and Organizations toward Change

It is essential to advocate for change through motivational strategies that enable health workers to support evidence-based practice in the administration of insulin medication (Randhawa, 2007). Motivational interviewing (MI) is one of the essential, evidence-based techniques that improve patient outcomes (Green & Butkus, 1999). Team leaders in MI assess the motivation of health care workers towards change. Team supervisors help employees realize the change that helps in the development of a flexible nursing team (Randhawa, 2007).

Several theoretical approaches advocate for the fulfillment of different types of needs that motivate staff. Theorists such as Herzberg and Maslow emphasized a group of needs that motivate employees after their satisfaction (Randhawa, 2007). Physiological needs such as food, water, and clothing are essential to motivate workers. Others, including the achievement of goals and the need for recognition, motivate employees to improve their organizational performances (Randhawa, 2007). Team leaders must use these theories in motivating employees into accepting change, thereby increasing insulin administration safety (Green & Butkus, 1999).

Nursing staff must be innovative and dynamic in their initiatives while providing health care services. It is essential for leaders to include their nursing team in the change plan (Randhawa, 2007). The engagement of other healthcare stakeholders as the community is essential to improve the administration of insulin medication. Teamwork and communication help to motivate employees towards change (Randhawa, 2007). Management should create a culture that embraces change as well as an environment that propels the institution to its full potential (Randhawa, 2007). Workers are motivated when they receive positive feedback and support from management. The period of transition may be very difficult, and it is important for employees to feel support from the team leaders (Green & Butkus, 1999).

Drawing upon QSEN competencies and the ANA Code of Ethics

The efficient administration of insulin medication requires adherence to both the ANA Code of Ethics and QSEN competencies. Team leaders must follow the desired standards of practice when delegating duties (Bradley, Hastings, Barber, & Gardner, 2012). Thus, it is essential for employees to provide patient-centered care to insulin patients. Health workers must recognize patients and provide well-coordinated care that addresses patients’ values, preferences, and needs (Bradley et al., 2012). Additionally, health workers must demonstrate wholeness of character while undertaking their tasks as well as professional growth. Moreover, health providers must foster teamwork and collaboration when offering insulin medication (Bradley et al., 2012).

Leaders must ensure that teams develop a plan of care that encompasses evidence-based practice, collaboration, and self-determination. Healthcare workers must integrate clinical expertise and current evidence with the patient preferences to attain optimal delivery of insulin administration (Bradley et al., 2012). For nurses to achieve the outcomes of effective administration of insulin, they must work within their professional boundaries while maintaining a high degree of dignity. Quality improvement is also essential for successful insulin administration (Bradley et al., 2012). Healthcare providers must continuously monitor the outcome of care processes by using data. Additionally, they must use improvement strategies for designing and testing changes to improve the effectiveness and quality of insulin medication (Bradley et al., 2012).

Furthermore, nurses must be accountable for everything they do by ensuring that they maintain high standards of safety and quality. Team leaders must reduce all risks that may harm patients and other providers by ensuring that there is greater effectiveness in both individual and system performances (Masters, 2014). Again, supervisors must make sure teams adapt to the set informatics. Healthcare nurses must use information technology in managing knowledge, supporting decision-making, communication, and mitigating errors (Masters, 2014). Administration of insulin medication requires nurses to demonstrate competence in the coordination of care (Masters, 2014). It is paramount for health workers to forge strong partnerships with both family and patients when administering insulin medication. Besides, team leaders must promote, collaborate and advocate the safeguarding of rights, health, and safety of insulin patients (Masters, 2014).

Creation of a Vision Statement

To achieve higher effectiveness and efficiency of evidence-based practice while administering insulin medication in health care facilities, continuous collaboration and teamwork of health care providers and patients’ families must be ensured. The vision must make sure that health care provision functions effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams (Masters, 2014). Moreover, organizations must adhere to the set hospital procedures, policies as well as use standards of care and regulatory guidelines to guide practice (Masters, 2014).
